SONY WF-1000XM3 TRUE WIRELESS NOISE CANCELLING EARPHONES ANNOUNCED

Sony has added to its renowned 1000X family with the launch of the WF-1000XM3 true wireless noise-cancelling earphones.

Sony’s industry-leading noise cancellation is improved further with the HD Noise Cancelling Processor QN1e chip and Dual Noise Sensor Technology which promises exceptional noise-cancelling performance.

Thanks to Dual Noise Sensor Technology, one feed-forward microphone and one feed-back microphone on the surface of the headphones catch more of the ambient sound around you. Having caught the ambient sound, the dedicated HD Noise Cancelling Processor QN1e gets to work. The processor cleverly creates an inverted sound wave to offset the unwanted background noise. It not only cancels more noise across almost all frequencies but also uses less power. The result is that anything from annoying aircraft cabin noise to the hustle and bustle on the city streets is cancelled-out by the buds - so all you get is the music.

Furthermore, Sony’s 1000X range is renowned for its high-quality sound, and this continues with the WF-1000XM3 earphones.

The HD Noise Cancelling Processor QN1e also accomplishes stunning sound thanks to 24-bit audio signal processing and DAC with amplifier.

Sony’s Digital Sound Enhancement Engine HX (DSEE HX) upscales compressed digital music files including MP3 formats, to bring you closer to the quality of High-Resolution Audio.

Naturally, the truly wireless design of the WF-1000XM3 buds means no getting in a tangle on the commute. Additionally, the WF-1000XM3 buds are small and light but still manage to pack in a newly developed Bluetooth chip that enables simultaneous transmission to both earphones, meaning that both sides receive audio content at the same time, rather than the conventional left-to-right relay found in similar offerings currently on the market. Also, we are told that latency has improved, which means films can also be enjoyed more on a paired device.

Battery life is quoted at 24 hours with noise-cancelling on, thanks to WF-1000XM3 earbuds’ sleek case that doubles up as a charger, perfect for a battery boost on the go. The buds even have a quick charge function – just 10 minutes of charging gives you up to 90 minutes of battery life.

You don’t even have to take out the snug-fitting buds to have a chat, just place your finger over the touch panel of the left earbud to quickly lower the music volume and let the ambient sound in. Plus, with the fully customisable touch sensors on the earbuds, you can easily play, pause, skip songs or activate your voice assistant with simple taps.

When you take out a bud, your music will automatically pause and resume playing when you put the earbud back in your ear.

Optimised for the Google Assistant, you can control your headphones by voice.

applause awards

Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.

Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.

The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.

We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
