Soulution 787 Linear Tracking Reference Turntable Moves Differently

Soulution's 787 turntable has a novel answer to linear tracking with a moving platter.

Soulution states that its 787 reference turntable is "engineered for audiophiles who demand nothing less than perfection."

Tackling the issue of tracking error, Soulution's novel approach is to design a turntable with linear tracking, a moving platter, and a minimal excursion pivoted tonearm. We are told that this results in a tracking error reduced to a maximum of <0.15°.

While the tonearm is mounted on an isolated, resonance-controlled sub-chassis, the 787's platter slides laterally to keep the 8-inch tonearm aligned with a linear tracking path. According to the manufacturer, this design eliminates the friction and unbalanced forces inherent with linear tracking tonearms, where lateral forces pull the arm toward the inner grooves without the issues of skating forces, tracking error, and alignment challenges of traditional pivoted tonearms.

The complete platter subassembly, consisting of the platter, the sub-platter, a high-precision low-friction sintered magnetic bearing, and the platter drive motor with precious metal brushes, slides laterally underneath the tonearm on polished axles. The brand says this ensures the tracking error remains minimal from the record's outermost to the innermost groove.

"Ultra-precise inductive proximity sensors " monitor the tonearm's position and control the platter's lateral movement, ensuring that the tracking error always remains below +/—0.15°.

The Soulution 787 measures 480×450×250 mm (W×D×H), weighs 36kg, and outputs through stereo RCA connections. The tonearm features "precious metal alloy" tonearm cables and is adjustable for VTA and azimuth. When the platter moves into its parking position, the tonearm swivels out, enabling the comfortable exchange of your vinyl record.

Production of the Soulution 787 is set to start in the fourth quarter of 2025. The suggested retail price is CHF 67'500 (inc. VAT 8.1%), with pricing for other territories yet to be confirmed.

We look forward to seeing and hearing it in action at High End Munich 2025 next week.

Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.

Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.

The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.

We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality.
