SOUND QUALITY BY DESIGN, ISOACOUSTICS

One of the unsuspecting heroes of good sound is often not a speaker or an amplifier, but actually a humble speaker stand.

The question asked by many punters at an audio show recently and in photos on social media was just what brand the stands were, and where to buy them? The good news is they're now available.

JBL IsoAcoustics

IsoAcoustics, which has been supplying its patented designs to the Professional Audio and Consumer markets since 2012, has in five short years amassed an impressive number of industry awards and accolades for its ability to deliver dramatically improved sonic performance and exceptional build quality. IsoAcoustics says they have grown rapidly and their products are now sold in over 60 countries.

The GAIA isolators are machined isolation feet, supplied in sets of four that incorporate IsoAcoustics’ patented design to provide a high degree of speaker isolation, while resisting lateral movement and oscillations, to maintain alignment with the listening position. Internal reflections from the hard supporting surface are attenuated resulting in greater sound clarity and openness. There are three models, GAIA 1, GAIA 2 and GAIA 3, designed to suit speakers weighing up to 100kg per speaker. Prices range from $299.50 for a set of 4.

The Aperta Series is a range of stands that allow for the full three-dimensional soundstage in your music, as seen supporting the marvellous JBL 4367 speakers at last year's show. The addition of Aperta stands to virtually any loudspeaker eliminates reflections from being conducted back into the structure that creates bass smear and results in a lack of clarity and openness.

Sculpted from aluminium frames, the Aperta creates a parallelogram structure with isolators in the top and bottom sections to provide a high level of separation of sound. To adjust performance and response of the stands, they are tuned by managing the shape, thickness and durometer of the isolators.

There's also built-in tilt adjustment that can be dialled-in 6.5 degrees upward and downwards to optimise your speaker placement and focus. The results are immediately obvious.

applause awards

Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.

Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.

The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.

We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
