SVS Launches Ultra Evolution Speakers

SVS, a brand that is synonymous with high-performance, excellent-value audio products, has announced its new flagship Ultra Evolution loudspeaker series.
Consisting of seven models, including three floorstanding tower speakers, two bookshelf speakers, a 3-way centre channel, and the Ultra Elevation height effects/surround speaker, Ultra Evolution is said to "represent a culmination of advancements in audio design to achieve performance that transcends class".
Featuring an acoustically centred time alignment cabinet architecture, a curved front baffle aligns the sound emanation point of the tweeter and each driver on a vertical plane, ensuring sound from each driver arrives at a listener's ear at the exact same instant. "This maximises phase coherence for a more convincing and immersive soundstage with pinpoint accuracy and imaging", says the company.
In the Pinnacle, Titan and Tower floorstanders, midrange drivers and woofers positioned above and below the tweeter allow for seamless crossover blending to create an idealised "point source" where sound flows from a single point in front of the speaker to optimise dispersion characteristics.
Gary Yacoubian, SVS President, told StereoNET:
Ultra Evolution redefines what's possible in its price range and well beyond by creating audio experiences that transcend their class and bring reference performance to more people than ever. I am so incredibly proud of what our design team accomplished. We really had no constraints and left no stone unturned. These new speakers represent the culmination of all our life's work, and it shows in every aspect of design and performance. The sound is addictive, I literally can't stop listening to them!
Also new is the diamond-coated aluminium dome tweeter. SVS says that using a modern technology called vapour deposition, a layer of diamond carbon is grown on the surface of the aluminium dome to improve rigidity and critical acoustic properties. This breakthrough in material science is said to raise the frequency response well beyond the limits of human hearing, but also pushes the low-frequency extension of the tweeter deeper for more seamless blending with the midrange.
SVS engineers used what they learned from their extensive subwoofer background. Dual opposing active woofers on the top and bottom of the cabinet are arranged in a force-balanced array to render effortless low-frequency response while addressing room modes.
The new Ultra Evolution's voicing is timbre-matched to all other SVS Prime and original Ultra models, so users can mix the three series to create a system. All speakers include detachable neodymium magnetic grilles, while Elastomer bumper feet and metal spike feet attachments are available for tower models.
Recommended retail pricing per pair except otherwise stated is as follows:

Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.
Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.
The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.
We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
