Technics Announces SL-1200MK7 Silver Edition Turntable

Technics has unveiled the new SL-1200MK7 Silver Edition Direct Drive Turntable to complement the industry-leading SL-1210MK7.

Teased back at CES 2019, the SL-1200MK7 inherits the same features and performance as the already hugely popular SL-1210MK7 DJ deck, which was introduced in January 2019.

The Technics SL-1200MK7 features a coreless direct-drive motor for stable rotation that we're promised is free from cogging and offers the powerful torque we've come to expect from the brand. Also included is the ubiquitous S-shaped tonearm.

You also get a two-layer platter with improved vibration-damping performance along with a high-rigidity cabinet complete with a high-damping insulator for thorough shut-out of all vibrations, even during harsh operation conditions.

As per all DJ requirements, the starting torque/brake speed adjustment and pitch control functions are all present and correct. Furthermore, so is a reverse play function. Finally, the stylus illuminator featuring a high-brightness, long-life LED will help cue up tracks in low light situations.

Technics' SL-1200 was launched as a popular direct drive turntable in 1972, and became a best-selling model with cumulative sales of 3,500,000 units for the series. It was supported by powerful torque, easy operation, and high durability. It became greatly admired by both audio enthusiasts and DJs who helped to unleash the DJ culture and is still highly acclaimed by DJs worldwide today.

The SL-1200MK7 will be available in Australia from May 2021 with a recommended retail price of $1,479.

applause awards

Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.

Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.

The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.

We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
