Technics Launches New EAH-AZ100 TWS With Proprietary Drivers
We were impressed by Technics' EAH-AZ80 true wireless earbuds, so we can't wait to try the new EAH-AZ100 earbuds from Technics.
Celebrating Technics' 60th anniversary, the EAH-AZ100 comes with the company's newly developed, proprietary "Magnetic Fluid Driver" technology. In the 10mm driver unit, an oil-type liquid filled with magnetic particles is injected into the space between the driver magnet and the voice coil to help reduce distortion.
We're told the ultra-thin free edge allows the driver to reach lows of 3Hz, and the aluminium diaphragm produces "high-resolution separation and detail." This technology is said to create a "dynamic, rhythmic, detailed listening experience", so music tracks are reproduced accurately and as the artist intended.
Technics has slightly modified the design of the EAH-AZ100, making the earbuds lighter and smaller so they're more comfortable in the ear.
There's also Dolby Atmos spatial audio integration, alongside triple microphones in each earbud, enabling features such as the new Voice Focus AI, which cancels out unwanted environmental noise so the wearer's voice can be amplified on calls.
Adaptive noise cancelling makes a comeback, and we're definitely hoping that Technics has improved the ANC and transparency mode. Three-device multipoint connectivity allows for seamless switching between sources, and the earbuds also support Google Fast Pair and Bluetooth LE Audio with Auracast.
With Bluetooth 5.3 connectivity, the earbuds support SBC, AAC, LDAC, and the new low-latency LC3 codecs. They can last up to 10 hours on a full charge and up to 28 hours in total, including the charging case. Finally, they are also IPX4-rated for water resistance.
Priced at £259 / US$299 / AU$499, the Technics EAH-AZ100 is currently available in the US and will go on sale in Australia from 1 February 2025.

applause awards
Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.
Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.
The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.
We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
