TECHNICS PULLS THE PLUG ON HI-RES DOWNLOADS

In the age of streaming and readily available hi-res downloads from HDTracks, ProStudioMasters, Qobuz and many more there is no place for relatively limited manufacturer services like Technics Tracks that runs off the 7Digital platform, which also sells most of the same content directly.

Originally launched to accompany the Technics brand relaunch in 2014/15, Tracks has hardly set the world alight, so it was no great surprise to get this email today:

It’s been three years since Technics TRACKS was launched in 2015 to provide a consistent high-end audio experience. In that time, Technics TRACKS managed to attract and to gain the respect of a community of distinguished music lovers. Following the market developments of streaming and downloading services as well as the general industry trends in the high-end audio segment, we have decided to discontinue the Technics TRACKS platform and exclusively focus on our digital and analogue premium audio devices.

The download service will, therefore, end on the 30th of June. Please download your music within this timeframe. Furthermore, valid vouchers can be redeemed until the 31st of May. Technics TRACKS has reached an agreement to further host the platform at the digital music and radio service 7Digital. Currently, registered users on Technics TRACKS can sign up with their login data for the 7digital platform to access high-resolution music.

If you have already bought music from Technics, it is available for download until 30th June, and any promo vouchers must be used by 31st May.

Try this global selection of download sites for more hi-res files than you’ll ever be able to afford. Sales are a regular feature of all the sites so keep checking, and you’ll get some bargains.

applause awards

Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.

Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.

The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.

We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
