Technics SL-1200M7L Anniversary DJ Deck Launches With Free Global Dance Party

Technics is releasing 12,000 limited edition SL-1200 direct-drive turntables to celebrate its 50th anniversary.
The SL-1200M7L special edition of Technics' legendary DJ deck is based on the Applause Award-winning SL-1200MK7 released in 2019, and sports a golden anodised tonearm alongside an engraved serial number on the top panel.
Further underlining its limited-edition credentials is a slip mat with a gold-coloured Technics logo and a 50th-anniversary sticker.
The original SL-1200 has been a club icon since being adopted by DJs after the deck's initial release in 1972 as an audiophile turntable.
The SL-1200M7L boasts a high rigidity cabinet complete with a high-damping insulator to mitigate vibrations. Naturally, it also features a starting torque/brake speed adjustment function, pitch control, reverse play, and a stylus illuminator with a high-brightness, long-life LED.
A total of 12,000 units of the SL-1200M7L will be released worldwide, available in seven colours: black, red, blue, white, green, yellow and beige.
As part of the 50th birthday celebrations, Technics is hosting a free live-streamed dance event in partnership with Boiler Room and Dommune on April 7th from 14.00 (BST).
Over seven hours, seven international DJs will perform at one of five featured record stores. The artist line-up includes, DJ Koco (Japan), Mala (UK), Ellen Allien (Germany), Gilles Peterson (UK), Shanti Celeste (Chile), Marcel Dettman (Germany) and DJ CRAZE (USA).
The SL-1200M7L will be available for pre-order for £899 from April 7th with shipping slated for July.

applause awards
Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.
Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.
The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.
We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
