The Cyrus 40 Series Launches
Cyrus 40 Series arrives with four all-new products with more to come from the British hi-fi brand.
Cyrus Audio might be celebrating its 40th birthday this year, but the esteemed British brand is keen to highlight that its all-new Cyrus 40 Series is not an anniversary range but the start of something new.
The range initially comprises four devices: the 40 AMP integrated amplifier, the 40 CD CD player, the 40 ST network streamer, and the 40 PSU external power supply. We have also been told that a phono preamplifier will be available in 2025. Moreover, all the devices are made in Britain and crafted from anodised aluminium with custom-designed vital components.
The new sleek design features edge-to-edge glass housing TFT displays - excellent for showing off album art in full colour. The aluminium chassis is finished in anodised brushed black, while the aluminium volume control is constructed from five separate elements. There's also a new remote control in the same brushed finish.
The changes are more than just a renewed exterior, however. Firstly, Cyrus has a new DAC design based on the ESS Sabre ES9039Q2M chipset, which leverages HyperStream IV Dual DAC technology.
The 40 ST streamer is powered by the BluOS hi-res streaming platform for playing back 24-bit/192kHz tracks across your home network. Using the BluOS mobile app, you can access 20 natively integrated streaming services, thousands of internet radio stations, and your networked music library.
Roon, Airplay 2 and MQA decoding are all present and correct. Finally, coaxial and optical inputs offer further options for feeding it with digital goodness.
The 40 CD uses the same DAC as its 40 ST stablemate and boasts a power supply to minimise interaction between the complex signals, including fast digital audio, sensitive analogue audio, high current servo and system controls.
The digital control circuits run from a dedicated supply, while another powers other parts of the player. Nine individual stage regulators smooth and distribute power within the player according to demand – Cyrus claims it has taken CD playback to another level, which sounds quite the achievement given how good CD players such as its CDi-XR are.
Those sources naturally need a suitable hub. This is where the 40 AMP integrated amplifier comes in with its 100 watts per channel into 6 ohms. We're informed that the 40 AMP's electronic circuit was designed from the ground up by Cyrus' R&D team and has enough juice to drive even the most demanding loudspeakers.
The 40 AMP boasts a raft of digital and analogue connections, including a low-noise moving magnet phono stage, which apparently inherits many of the brand's Classic PHONO design features that Cyrus states translate to low background noise and high dynamic range. There's even an HDMI eARC port onboard so your TV can get in on the action.
Finally, the 40 PSU external power supply continues the Cyrus tradition of smart power with this latest incarnation featuring an onboard microprocessor. It's designed to be attached to all products in the 40 Series to configure the optimum power level to keep them running at their best. All output voltages are controlled digitally, making them stable and virtually noise-free, so Cyrus says. Best of all, the 40 PSU and PSU-XR can be used across both ranges, which is good news for existing owners.
The Cyrus 40 Series is available now. The 40 AMP is priced at £3,995, the 40 CD is £2,995, and the 40 ST costs £2,995. The 40 PSU sells for £2,495. We look forward to the 40 Series phono and more from Cyrus.

applause awards
Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.
Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.
The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.
We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
