The Name’s Wilkins, Bowers & Wilkins - Px8 007 Edition

Bowers & Wilkins Px8 007 Edition noise-cancelling headphones for when the world is not enough.

Bowers & Wilkins has teamed up with the most famous of British spies to create a special edition of its Px8 headphones in a hue similar to James Bond's debut dinner jacket.

The Bowers & Wilkins Px8 007 Edition might not feature concealed weapons, trackers or convert into a gyrocopter; however, there are screen prints of the iconic 'gun barrel' logo hidden inside the ear cups - for your ears only.

It's hard to believe that it's sixty years since the now immortal Monty Norman signature theme, masterly arranged by John Barry, first struck up for cinema-goers introducing them to James Bond 007, licensed to kill. In light of Bond's anniversary, esteemed British speaker maker Bowers & Wilkins has released a bespoke version of its Px8 wireless headphones.

We're currently putting the 'civilian' Px8 noise-cancellers through their paces. We have already been impressed by its quality materials and build quality - whether or not its sound quality matches that, you will have to wait for the review! Let's just say that their 40mm Carbon Cone drive units loved rocking the Live And Let Die theme by Paul McCartney and Wings.

Although not stitched in Saville Row, the Px8 007 Edition features Midnight Blue Nappa leather inspired by the dinner jacket worn by Bond on his debut appearance in 1962's Dr No. You also get a laser-etched '007' logo on the top of the earcup and a sporty red power slider.

Of course, this isn't the first time Bowers & Wilkins has crossed paths with Bond. Claiming a "40-year relationship with Abbey Road Studios", the brand's flagship 800 Series loudspeakers have been used to monitor the recording of many a Bond score, including Skyfall (2012) and Spectre (2015), and, more recently, Bond 25, an album featuring all 25 iconic Bond themes with brand new arrangements recorded by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in Abbey Road Studio One.

Giles Pocock, Bower's Vice President of Brand Marketing, told StereoNET:

We are immensely proud of our long-standing relationship with the James Bond franchise. Together, we will continue to celebrate the instrumental role that music plays in this global cultural phenomenon.

The Bowers & Wilkins Px8 007 Edition are available now for £699 from Bowers & Wilkins and at 007Store.com.

applause awards

Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.

Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.

The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.

We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
