Triangle 40th Anniversary Loudspeakers Announced

Triangle's 40th Anniversary Limited Edition speakers promise the French company's latest acoustic innovations.

Triangle's Antal and Comète 40th Anniversary Limited Edition loudspeakers have been released to celebrate the Villeneuve-Saint-Germain-based brand's birthday, as well as its loyal workforce, some of whom have apparently been with the company for thirty-five years.

Triangle Antal and Comete 40th Anniversary

The updated 40th Anniversary Antal three-way floorstander and Comète two-way standmount feature new horn-loaded TZ2520MG tweeters and small pleat midrange drivers made from cellulose paper as well as rose gold embellishments all fitted into high-quality wood veneered cabinets.

Triangle Antal 40th Anniversary Floorstander

The Antal 40th features a new rose gold anodised magnesium dome tweeter, developed exclusively for the two 40th Anniversary models instead of Triangle's usual compression-chambered metal domed model. The new rose gold and anodised magnesium composite dome tweeter is said to produce excellent directivity while keeping distortion under control. Magnesium was chosen as it combines two desired qualities: lightness and rigidity. The dome is designed to support the coil, ensuring even and homogeneous alignment. This design also offers high consistency during production, says the manufacturer.

The tweeter is matched at the other end of the frequency range by a pair of bass drivers inspired by the Australe speaker from the Esprit Ez series. Promising little distortion despite a long throw, the driver features an extremely rigid membrane comprising two types of wood pulp coupled with flax combined with carbon fibre. The driver has a generously sized engine, ensuring excellent control.

The small-pleat paper membrane midrange driver stays true to Triangle's heritage as the brand has always favoured this construction in combination with a peripheral short-travel suspension due to its precise and lifelike vocal reproduction.

However, Triangle's R&D team has developed a new material made out of 100% natural cellulose paper. This paper fibre has no surface treatment, supplying a natural sound without colouration, we are told. The 40th Anniversary Edition also benefits from a new cone profile, said to improve the frequency response, especially in low frequencies. Also, by offering a more linear signal, it limits the use of filtering components that interfere with the sound's purity.

This line-up results in the Antal 40th producing a claimed frequency range of 40 Hz-22 kHz with a 92 (dB/m) sensitivity.

Triangle Comète 40th Anniversary Standmounter

The Comète 40th standmount incorporates much of the same technology as the Antal 40th but in a compact 200x324x400 mm package.

Featuring the same midrange/bass driver in natural cellulose paper with an engine and suspensions adapted for a broader spectrum of sound. The Comète is also offered with an optional dedicated speaker stand, the S04 40th Anniversary.

The S04 40th features cable routing and also enables the Comète 40th to be screwed to the stand for more rigidity. This speaker is perfect for smaller spaces and has a quoted 49 Hz-22 kHz frequency range and 90 (dB/m) sensitivity.

Triangle 40th Anniversary Speaker Construction

Both of the 40th Anniversary Edition loudspeakers employ high-end cabling inspired by the Signature Series. The cables use two insulated oxygen-free copper conductors with a PVC jacket covering the entire cable, mitigating any electromagnetic disturbance. Additionally, the crossovers feature air-core coils, MET capacitors and ceramic resistors.

All of this is wrapped in high-quality woodwork usually reserved for the brand's Signature and Magellan offerings. The high-density cabinet and optimised internal bracing offer the 40th Anniversary range with proven rigidity without any perceptible colouration. The cabinets are available in either Santos rosewood veneer, which is enhanced by a glossy finish for a "unique look with enchanting reflections", and blond Sycamore, adorned with a single layer of matte varnish.

Along with the subtle rose gold anodisation of the speaker's ornamental trims, the 40th Anniversary range's terminals are also formed from rose gold anodised brushed aluminium. The custom-designed, insulated terminals can accommodate a 5mm diameter cross-section cable. They can also accommodate banana plugs with a locking system. Additionally, the Antal 40th is bi-wirable.

Finally, for the finishing touches, the 40th Anniversary Edition speakers are supplied with an accessory kit that offers two sets of decoupling spikes. Naturally, one set is rose gold aluminium. As well as being height adjustable, it comes with lock nuts for surfaces such as carpets. The second is rubber and suitable for hard surfaces.

The Triangle 40th Anniversary Limited Edition speakers are available now, with the Antal 40th priced at €3,000 and the Comète 40th at €1,500 per pair.
