Vertere Techno Mat Released

Vertere today has announced its latest accessory for your record player - the Techno Mat.

Vertere's Techno Mat (£130) promises to ease the mind of audiophiles who are concerned about the safety of their records when sitting them directly on a platter. Vertere says that the Techno Mat will also improve the record player's performance.

The Techno mat has a randomly fibrous top layer bonded onto a Cork/Polymer compound layer. We are told that the top layer provides the record with an almost air cushion-like support. Vertere importantly states that this air cushion keeps the inherent properties and characteristics of the vinyl record itself unchanged. Meanwhile, the lower layer provides the required interface and connection to the platter in an inert manner. The upshot is that the mat creates a support for your vinyl that is as neutral as possible.

There are two models of Vertere Techno Mat to choose from, one has been designed specifically for the Vertere MG-1, SG-1 and RG-1 record players and sports a 4.5mm spindle hole. Whereas, the other has a 7.0mm diameter centre hole for use with all other turntables.

Touraj's collaborations include Giles Martin - son of Sir George Martin - who used a Vertere MG-1 record player including SG-1 tonearm and PHONO-1 preamplifier while working on remixes of The Beatles albums to check and approve the acetates and the test pressings.

Miles Showell, the multi-award-winning mastering engineer, uses his own customised Neumann VMS 80 lathe, incorporating Vertere cables, to cut normal and half-speed masters for the likes of ABBA, Cream, The Police and The Rolling Stones. Furthermore, Miles also uses a Vertere SG-1 record player, with an SG-1 tonearm and PHONO-1 preamplifier to listen to and approve acetates and test pressings. Needless to say that the SG-1 is also his choice when enjoying his record collection.

Vertere head honcho,Touraj, told StereoNET:

It's only by involving ourselves at every stage of the record-making process that we can ensure our products bring you as close as possible to what the artists and engineers wanted.

Finally, we think that the strobe marks on the cork side are a really nice touch, too.

The Vertere Techno Mat is available now for £130 for either version.

applause awards

Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.

Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.

The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.

We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
