Yamaha Launches TW-E5B True Wireless Earbuds and Focuses on Hearing Health

Yamaha has an exciting new model to add to its lineup of wireless headphones, the TW-E5B, which adopts Yamaha's TRUE SOUND ethos.

The TW-E5B boasts an array of features with their stylish design, presenting them as a highly versatile earbud ideal for the modern user.

Yamaha's TRUE SOUND ethos promises "clear and very real vocal and musical instrument sound, bringing listeners closer to the artist, which only a brand like Yamaha with over 130 years history of Musical Instruments can achieve."

The advanced mic design delivers crystal-clear calls, says Yamaha, ideal for remote working situations, while the ambient sound function and gaming mode provide versatility for any situation. Coinciding with World Hearing Day, Yamaha's unique Listening Care technology provides intelligent equalisation at any volume to support safe music listening. Yamaha hopes to inspire many users to think about a superior music listening experience with TRUE SOUND and the long-term health of their hearing.

Yamaha says a WHO report from 2019 estimates more than one billion young people are at risk of developing avoidable, permanent hearing loss due to unsafe listening practices. The long-term impacts may be especially compounded by the daily wear of earbuds and headphones at high volume levels.

Yoshi Tsugawa, Senior General Manager, Home Audio Division, Yamaha Corporation, commented:

As a full line musical instrument manufacturer, Yamaha has a connection with a wide range of customers, from music creators to music listeners. It can be one of our social responsibilities to ensure our customers can enjoy music for many years to come. Listening Care is one of the unique features which allows TRUE SOUND listening experience for a lifetime without losing any musical expression in any volume level.

The TW-E5B release coincides with World Hearing Day and is supported by a new website that Yamaha has created to raise awareness around Hearing Health.

The TW-E5B features a 7mm driver unit, which, together with the nozzle, are placed on the same axis as the sound conduit and said to eliminate obstacles from the sound conduit to the sound exit as much as possible.

Additionally, a hole is provided on the rear side of the earbuds to control the back pressure generated by the driver. Yamaha says that this maximises the use of air inside the earbuds and leads to the reproduction of a rich low range with a three-dimensional feel.

Yamaha's TW-E5B are IPX5 water and sweat resistant, and offer up to 30 hours total of battery life (with an enhanced charging case featuring easy-read battery life indicators (8.5 h + 21.5 h)). They also feature easy controls for phone calls, music playback and Siri / Google Assistant activation. Four sizes of ear-tips are provided, which can be replaced according to the size of the user's left and right earholes.

Available in four colours from late March 2022, they will sell in North America for $149.95.

applause awards

Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.

Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.

The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.

We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
