Zeitgeist Germany’s Earphones Boast Links With Fine Whisky and Faberge Eggs

If you're in the market for some distinctive in-ear monitors, Zeitgeist Germany has you covered thanks to its Artisan and Whisky lines.

Zeitgeist Germany is a new name on the block. It hopes to separate itself from the pack by offering two mould-breaking IEM models constructed from distinctive solid woods.

Three years in the making and founded by Thomas Halbgewachs, formerly of Beyerdynamic and a collaborator with other high-end headphone companies, Zeitgeist Germany has partnered with fellow German brand InEar, an established maker of in-ear stage monitors. So, these new offerings should have the sonic skills and striking aesthetics to make them stand out.

The new brand offers the Artisan and Whisky collections, with a third Trees line to follow in August.

The IEMs are said to have a 15-35kHz frequency range and 30 Ohms impendence thanks to their "proprietary tuned", 2-way balanced armature system (Sonion).

ZEITGEIST GERMANY ARTISAN COLLECTION

The Artisan Collection IEMs are constructed using Karelian Birchwood (aka Masur or Nordic Curly Birch), which was also used for the penultimate Fabergé Egg produced for Tsar Nicolas II.

It was also the only design primarily made from an organic material.

Meanwhile, IEMs from the Whisky Collection feature wood once used to cask Islay Malt Whisky. The wood is cut from the barrel and then oiled before the drivers and internal components are inserted.

Zeitgeist aims to expand its range for the tasty-sounding range, sharing plans for a Flamed Island Malt iteration and a Tennessee version for those who prefer a good ol' sippin' whiskey to a wee dram.

FIT AND FINISH

We are told that the company has studied thousands of ear impressions to find the best fit for most wearers, resulting in a design that "seamlessly contours to your ears."

Along with four different sets of silicon eartips to ensure the perfect fit, the IEMs come with a premium cable in the box, featuring an 8-core structure braided from high-purity, silver-plated monocrystalline copper, available in 3.5mm and 4.4mm versions.

applause awards

Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.

Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.

The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.

We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
