Canton Moves to Indi Imports

Germany's Canton and their range of loudspeakers are available in Australia once again following the recent distribution change from Canohm to Indi Imports.
Canton has existed since 1972 when four HiFi enthusiasts joined together with the goal of producing the best loudspeakers of their class. The name Canton is a combination of the Latin word "cantare" (to sing) and the German word "Ton" (musical tone).
Interestingly, after acquiring an empty village school building and house in Niederlauken, those foundation years for the company saw loudspeaker development and testing performed in the house's living room. The philosophy of the Canton developers was:
Speakers belong in the living room and must therefore be tailored to fit this environment and the people in it. Canton’s speakers were from the very beginning designed not only to excite the audio freaks, who were mostly men, but also to please the aesthetic senses of women who were delighted with the refined appearance of the enclosures.
Canton has enjoyed much success in the 40+ years since their inception, and the company has continued to evolve with market trends, now producing not only affordable stereo speakers, but a range of lifestyle products and soundbars, right through to the flagship Reference K line of audiophile loudspeakers.
Canton speakers are still developed with those same core principles in mind, but growth dictated a new purpose-built development centre in Weilrod, near Frankfurt, Germany. All Canton's speakers drivers, crossovers and cabinets are produced in-house.
The move to Indi Imports sees Canton join the distribution portfolio that includes Cyrus, System Audio, Sonoro, Unity Audio, AMC, Elfi Design and Myryad.
For the first time in Australia, Indi Imports says Canton's Reference K range, the pinnacle of German engineering and speaker design, will now be available in Australia. This includes the flagship K1 which will sell locally for $38,999 RRP. The Reference K range is entirely handbuilt by one engineer only at specific times of the year.
Paul Riachi, Managing Director of Indi Imports told StereoNET:
We are so honored to be trusted with such a prestige brand in Canton. Personally I have an attachment for the speaker brand, as it was one of the very first brands I sold. Canton’s build quality I have to say is extremely consistent, from their sound bars to their high end floor standing speaker systems, Canton not only makes you feel good with sound, but you really know you have bought an investment and not just another speaker. As an electronics technician and a having a true passion for audio, it’s quite easily to see on the outset that these speakers are the real deal.
Indi Imports has updated Canton's pricing which they say is now more affordable than previously available, and for the first time, at price parity with European local pricing.
With the exception of the Refernce K range, Canton became available via Indi Imports from December 1st, 2016.

applause awards
Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.
Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.
The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.
We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
