Focal Vestia Home Cinema Loudspeakers Unveiled

Focal Vestia five-model home cinema range of loudspeakers unveiled at CES 2023 and apparently inspired by Vesta and Hestia, goddesses of the hearth and the home.

Focal, a French brand recognised as a "Living Heritage Company" by the government, has launched a new line of home loudspeakers called Vestia. The line includes five models designed for high-quality music and home cinema experiences: the Vestia N°1 bookshelf speaker for small spaces, the Vestia N°2, Vestia N°3, and Vestia N°4 floorstanding models, and the Vestia Center speaker for home cinema setups.

The Vestia speakers feature Focal's exclusive Slatefiber cone made from recycled carbon fibres and an "M"-shaped dome tweeter, dubbed the TAM tweeter. The floorstanding speakers also have a front and rear port for improved soundstage and bass.

The 38.7x21.9x10cm (HxWxD) stand-mounted N°1 has a 25mm Al/Mg inverted dome TAM tweeter partnering a 16.5cm mid-bass unit and a front-firing aerodynamic, low-distortion port. Sensitivity (2.83V/1m) is listed at 89.5dB with a nominal impedance of 8 ohms and frequency response (+/- 3dB) of 56hz-30kHz.

Meanwhile, the 101.2cm tall, three-way floorstanding N°2 is armed with a pair of 16.5cm Slatefibre woofers, a similarly-proportioned mid-bass unit, along with a 25mm Al/Mg inverted dome TAM tweeter. This results in a claimed frequency response (+/-3dB) of 47Hz-30kHz and a 91.5dB sensitivity (2.83V/1m).

Standing at 112.2cm tall, N°3 adds another 16.5cm woofer to the three-way mix bringing the lower frequencies down to 42Hz and sensitivity to 92dB (2.83V/1m).

Finally, N°4 is the largest of the Vestia offerings, measuring 112.6x30.4x43cm (HxWxD) and sports a 16.5cm Slatefiber mid-bass bolstered by two 21sm Slatefiber woofers alongside a 25mm Al/Mg TAM Tweeter surrounded by a urethane waveguide. This adds up to a quoted frequency response of 40Hz-30kHz (+/-3dB) and 92dB sensitivity (2.83V/1m).

Rounding the Focal Vestia range off is the Centre speaker. This is a two-way, dual rear-ported design fitted with a brace of 16.5cm Slatefiber mid-bass drivers and the 25mm TAM Tweeter. Output includes a 58Hz-30kHz frequency response (+/-3dB).

The Vestia range features a fine-grained, leather-effect finish to the front panels and is available in three finishes: Black High Gloss, Dark Wood, and Light Wood, and can be paired with a SUB 600P subwoofer for deeper bass.

The Vestia N°1 is priced at £799 per pair, with the Vestia N°2 costing £1,799 per pair and the Vestia N°3 £2,399 per pair. The flagship Vestia N°4 comes in at £2,599 per pair, while the Vestia CC centre channel costs £449 each. Stands are also available for Vestia N°1 at £299 per pair.

applause awards

Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.

Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.

The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.

We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
