MONITOR AUDIO’S SILVER SERIES NOW IN STORE

After announcing their sixth-generation of the the highly acclaimed Silver Series of loudspeakers earlier this year, Monitor Audio's new range is already proving to be solid gold.

Within two weeks of arriving in hi-fi stores around Australia, reports say it’s selling like the proverbial hot cakes. Even up against heady competition from brands like Klipsch and their recently released Reference Series, and locally long-established brands such as Bowers & Wilkins, the revamped Silver models are attracting heaps of interest and a pile of sales.

And continuing the theme of silverware and baked cakes, one store-owner told StereoNET the Silver 6 range is a bread and butter proposition for most stockists.

The Monitor Audio Silver 6G range comprises two compact stand mounts, three sleek, slimline floorstanders, a wall mount model and two centre channel speakers as well as a matching subwoofer.

The two Silver Series stand mounts have powerful drive magnets and large 32 mm voice coils. The Silver 50 ($1085 RRP) is a two-way bass reflex design with a new 5-¼ -inch bass/mid range unit and new 25mm Gold Dome C-Cam tweeter.

The larger Silver 100 ($1400 RRP) has the same tweeter but is equipped with a powerful 8-inch C-CAM mid/bass driver.

The hybrid Silver 200 ($2150 RRP) floorstander is acoustically and electrically a two and a half way dual chamber reflex design. It has twin HiVe 11 ports and two 5-¼ -inch C-CAM drive units and a new 25 mm Gold Dome Tweeter.

The Silver 300 ($2695 RRP) has a pair of long throw bass drivers working together to generate plenty of taut, bass. The Flagship Silver 500 ($3250 RRP) has a pair of long throw 8-inch C-CAM drivers and a dedicated, specifically designed 4-inch RST driver. The Silver 500 plumbs down to 30 Hz.

For surround sound the range includes the side or rear wall mounted Silver FX ($1085 RRP), a speaker with a sleek profile and a switch that can make it behave like a dipole or bipole.”

It features dual 25 mm Gold Dome C-CAM tweeters and a 6-inch C-CAM mid/bass driver.

The range offers a choice of two centre channel speakers, the Silver C150 ($825 RRP) and the larger, Silver C350 ($1265 RRP). The former uses twin 5 ¼-inch C-CAM bass drivers in a 2.5-way configuration using a 25 mm Gold Dome tweeter. The C350 is a 3-way, four-driver design.

The Silver W-12 ($2200 RRP) powered subwoofer completes the new range. This has a long throw 12-inch driver and a built-in 500-watt W Class-D amplifier and powerful on-board DSP processing.

To suit any interior, the range is available in Walnut, Black Oak, and Satin White. High Gloss Black is also available for few more dollars. The satin white finish is stunning and will suit the growing minimalist design approach of modern spaces.

This 9-model range has been designed to deliver great sound used in hi-fi stereo or multi channel home cinemas.

The outstanding feature of the Silver 6 range is the all-new Gold Dome C-CAM tweeter carried by all the models. Featuring a novel, vented Neo magnet system, the newly developed tweeter yields minimum distortion and highly detailed treble.

Another of the many innovations employed on the Bronze 6 is a single bolt-through driver fixing system that is an effective driver to baffle decoupling system and one that yields better bracing and overall rigidity. This single bolt-through system is used on all the Bronze 6 drivers.

The bolt runs from the back of the driver and fixes to the inside rear of the speaker cabinet. This is a really clever and efficient to decouple the driver and increase the bracing of each speaker cabinet. The Bronze 6 cabinets are made from 18mm MDF and each speaker has a vinyl veneer finish.

The previous Silver range went on to become a global best seller and one that garnished more than its share of awards. The new Silver 6 range, with its 5-year warranty, is poised and priced to do even better.

applause awards

Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.

Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.

The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.

We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
