The M1 is described as a full-function streamer as it boasts analogue and USB output and an in-built headphone amplifier. The M1T, on the other hand, is a digital transport designed to be used with an external DAC and so sports USB, S/PDIF and AES EBU outputs.

The AES/EBU, I2S, Coaxial digital output support up to PCM 384KHz and DSD 5.6M (DSD128), whereas the USB audio port can handle up to PCM 768KHz and DSD 11.2MHz (DSD256).

The M1 and M1T brain is a quad-core 1.5GHz ARM Cortex-A72 CPU partnered with low-noise DDR4 RAM in a choice of 2, 4, or 8GB flavours. Internal memory is 32GB of high-speed flash. Storage can be further augmented via the USB 3.0 or pair of USB 2.0 ports. There is also an M-IO, M-LINK for peripheral access.

The fanless design of the 155 x 50.4 x 110mm, 1.63kg units guarantee to put the silent in Silent Angel, and the 6.35mm headphone port of the Munich M1 streamer enables late-night listening.

Both units run on a proprietary application available on iOS and Android platforms that offers access to Spotify, TIDAL, Qobuz and much more. In addition, the M1 is Roon Ready, and we're told that the M1T will follow shortly with the same.

Both the M1 and M1T are supplied with a switch-mode PSU. However, Silent Angel states that performance can be enhanced by using the F1 PSU and optional Bastei DC Cables.

The Silent Angel Munich M1 and M1T are available in the UK now priced at £999 and £699, respectively.

applause awards

Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.

Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.

The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.

We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
