Zappiti Media Players No More as Company Liquidated

With the demise of hardware-based solutions for playback of locally stored media content, Zappiti has announced it is shutting down for good.
Zappiti was a hardware manufacturer with an extensive range of 4K Media Players that were mostly pretty good at what they do. See our earlier review of the Zidoo UHD3000, where we referred to some issues we'd experienced with Zappiti's compatibility. We also had great difficulties obtaining support from the company at the time.
In a statement distributed to its customers, Zappiti said, "It's with the greatest sadness that I have to announce that Zappiti will be over soon." It continued, "As you already know, we are fighting since January to keep our baby alive, but unfortunately, Justice has refused to hear us".
It is speculated that there were disagreements within the company relating to ownership and that workers continued without pay to continue operating the service. Zappiti relied on a cloud solution to match content, which the statement says will be disconnected before the end of the year.
As for existing owners of Zappiti products, the company has said, "we are working on a solution to propose to all the Zappiti users. The plan is to install a new app so they can continue to enjoy their Zappiti products. There will be a small fee for that App." It is also understood that customers cannot transfer their collection's metadata to the new App and must register a new account and rebuild their library. In the meantime, Zappiti will still work for local offline collections, but new content will no longer be identified.
Zidoo remains one of the last standing dedicated hardware manufacturers catering exclusively to 4K local media playback and given the recent success of its sister brand, EverSolo, it is fair to assume the company is on solid foundations. Of course, alternative products like Apple TV and Nvidia Shield, for example, running software solutions like Emby, Plex, and others, still exist for managing locally stored content such as Blu-ray backups.

applause awards
Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.
Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.
The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.
We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
