Holton Hits a New High

Highly regarded audio designer and manufacturer Anthony E Holton, main man for Hi-End audio outfit Holton Precision Audio has been busy creating spanking new loudspeaker protection and amplifier modules.

Holton told StereoNET, his is a Loudspeaker Protection Module with a difference. The quietly spoken Holton isn’t prone to hyperbole and with his track record and audio cred, he doesn’t need to.

‘’We're now releasing the speaker protection and amplifier modules. The way I’d describe our protection module is to say the LSP Two unlike most other protection boards, controls the DC voltage rails right at the amplifier module or modules. Should one of the amplifier modules fail and produce a DC offset, the LSP Two will detect this and directly switch off the DC voltage rails and hold or latch them off until a power cycle is done,’’ he said.

Holtan also says the LSP Two has a 90% high efficiency switching +24 volt regulator that operates at 600khz and is very low noise that powers the entire board and will allow as much as +95 volts input from the main amplifier power supply.

''Minimum input DC supply rail voltage to power the LSP Two is +35 volts,’’ he said.

"Moreover it will also sense when the main AC mains is lost and instantaneously switch off the DC voltage rails to the amplifier modules. The on board Protection Enabled LED can be extended to the front panel of your amplifier and the LSP Two will protect or monitor as many as six amplifier channels.''

The LSP Two controls the Positive and Negative voltage rails with two independent 30 amp relays, so there is one relay for each DC voltage rail.

The input to the switching regulator is polarity protected, so if the LSP Two is accidentally connected to the wrong supply rails it will not be damaged.

The HPA-LSP Two measures a very compact 120mm x 50mm with a maximum height of 33mm when using 10mm stand offs.

The HPA-LSP Two is now available from the HPA Online Shop at http://www.aussieamplifiers.com/onlineshop.htm and StereoNET predicts it will go gangbusters with DIY enthusiasts.

Holton’s new amplifier modules will also be sought after. They are built around Exicon Dual and Single Die Lateral MOSFET platforms and the designer says they will be available in two power versions.

‘’After careful study and real world testing we opted to build these modules using the highly respected HPA-nxV200 R2 amplifier modules of which many hundreds have being sold all over the world including Australia and NZ,’’ Holton said.

In what’s sure to please discerning audiophiles and DIYers, Holton told StereoNET the modules are now available.

applause awards

Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.

Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.

The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.

We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
