A World First and a World Class Home Cinema Demo From Krix

Following 2017's Melbourne International Hi-Fi Show, I sat with Scott Krix, the founder of the loudspeaker company bearing his name and over coffee, the seed for a genuinely world-class home cinema demonstration for the following year's show, was planted.

It was never meant to be this big. It was never expected to have so many channels. And as we'd soon learn, it might not even be possible.

But it was big. And it grew to a world-first, whopping 24.10.10 channels of Dolby Atmos, and in the end, it was more than possible. In fact, it was a staggering success.

But it wasn't without serious commitment; blood, sweat, tears, and ultimately a substantial investment from the South Australian manufacturer.

There were times where, as the organiser of the show, I wondered whether we could pull it off. Our reputation was riding on this. There were times where even the venue itself had concerns. Scott Krix was nervous.

But with absolute determination and the dedication of the entire Krix team, it all came together. All parties came together and worked harmoniously through the challenges. Krix can now proudly wear the crown as the first Dolby Atmos home cinema demonstration of this scale at a public show, ever.

Go behind the scenes in this exclusive footage of the Krix 24.10.10 Dolby Atmos system at the 2018 Melbourne International Hi-Fi Show.

On behalf of StereoNET, and the International Hi-Fi Show, I would like to personally thank Barco, Trinnov and Tom Garrett, and all the partners that came together to support this project. I'd also like to sincerely thank all the Krix team, especially Michael Cox and Scott Krix for believing in us as a partner and giving us the opportunity to present this demonstration to the public. It was a wild ride, but we'd have no hesitation doing it all over again.

applause awards

Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.

Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.

The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.

We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
