Aussie Legend Continues with Richter Harlequin S6 Release

One of Australia's home-grown speaker brands since 1986, Richter Audio has announced the release of its Legend Series 6, Harlequin S6 2-Way floorstanding loudspeaker.

Following months of testing, and delays caused by COVID-19, the Harlequin S6 has cleared quarantine and can now cross borders into Australian homes.

Richter Audio's highly anticipated Series 6 of loudspeakers is now complete, with Managing Director, Brian Rodgers commenting:

The new Harlequin Series 6 speakers have been designed to be an Exciting Engaging Entertainment Experience to make you want to start digging through that record and CD collection or start swiping for your favourites from a streaming service.

The two-way floorstanding loudspeaker feature a "new 6.5-inch lightweight but extremely stiff paper coated Mid/Bass driver in this new rear-ported 2 Way Bass Reflex design". Richter says these drivers effectively minimise breakup and roll off resonance. There's also a new low distortion soft dome tweeter "with resonance well below 900Hz and the desired phase characteristics of a gently inclined sound pressure level frequency response to over 30Khz."

Rogers added:

The development of these new propriety drivers allowed Dr Martin Gosnell to focus on a new minimal crossover design using high-quality acoustic polypropylene caps, air-cored and ferrite core inductors.

Selling for the very reasonable price of $1,899 RRP and available in matt black or walnut finish, they're also supplied with new S6H speaker stabilisers which are said to "improve sideways and forward stability, as well as overall improved acoustic performance of the speaker."

Vital stats include a quoted frequency response of (-6dB) 31Hz-30KHz, 88.5 dB (2.83Vrms, 1m on Axis) sensitivity, nominal 6 Ohms, and a recommended amplifier power of 50-100 watts RMS. Each cabinet weighs in at 15.5kg.

The Harlequin S6 will be available from the second half of July 2020 initially in the matt black finish.

applause awards

Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.

Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.

The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.

We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
