BenQ iSeries Apple AirPlay / Android TV Projectors

BenQ's True 4K home projector range now offers a trio of Android TV-powered film slingers.
The BenQ iSeries TK850i, W2700i and TH685i projectors sport wireless connectivity via Chromecast and Apple AirPlay and can access the Google Play Store. This all adds up to cable-free access to live TV streaming, movies and games content sharing.
The desk-top, DLP-based iSeries projectors all utilise a 1.3x zoom lens and will project an image of up to 200-inches with a mere 2.5 meters required for a 100-inch picture.
The BenQ W2700i and BenQ TK850i (above) are the 4K ones with a better spec and higher price point. They offer dynamic iris control and enhanced tone mapping to adjust picture brightness on-the-fly. Also, both are loaded with HDR Pro technology HDR10/HLG support and promise to deliver a dynamic contrast of 30,000:1.
The BenQ TK850i is best suited to family viewing or sports events as, thanks to its 3,000 ANSI lumens, you should still be able to enjoy its claimed 98% Rec.709 colour gamut even in well-lit rooms. Furthermore, you get the option to mount the TK850i thanks to its keystone correction.
Whereas the 2,000 ANSI lumens of the W2700i will need the curtains drawn and is more movie focused, especially as it also features BenQ's CinematicColor control technology. This gives the W2700i bragging rights to 95% coverage of the super-wide DCI-P3 colour space and 100% of Rec. 709 colour gamut.
Gamers will no doubt appreciate the BenQ TH685i's low input lag with claims of 8.3ms at 120Hz. Additionally, it offers dedicated game modes to get the most out of your console or PC.
However, where you are saving roughly half the price compared to the other two, the TH65i goes as far as 1080p HDR output, not 4K - although it can handle 4K source material. That said, it is the brightest of the bunch with a 3,500 ANSI lumens lamp that will last for around 15,000 hours.
All three BenQ iSeries home projectors are available now. The BenQ W2700i and BenQ TK850i have an RRP of £1579. The BenQ TH685i is priced at £759.

applause awards
Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.
Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.
The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.
We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
