BOSE SMART NOISE CANCELLING 700 HEADPHONES ON PRE-ORDER

Bose is taking pre-orders for its top-flight noise cancelling headphones snappily titled the Bose Noise Cancelling Headphones 700.

Bose appears to be breaking its 13-year old naming convention by not slipping the new Bose Noise Cancelling Headphones 700 under the QuietComfort brand. Is this the shape of things to come from Bose?

Judging by the marketing shots, the old name isn’t the only thing that Bose is dropping. The new noise cancellers have a definite modern aesthetic, something that the QuietComfort line started to lack in our opinion.

Naturally, you still get Bluetooth connectivity and noise-cancellation along with a Trans-Atlantic bashing 20-hour battery life after a 2.5-hour charge. Additionally, there is also Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa voice control optimisation.

Bose Smart Noise Cancelling Headphones 700Bose claims it has improved upon its noise-canceling tech for the new cans. The headset also boasts a four-microphone system with 11 increments of noise-cancellation to choose from. For instance, activate Conversation Mode, which will allow you to hear your boss asking if you’ve finished the job yet or, more usefully, announcements from the cabin crew or Tube driver.

What got my gadgety glands going, however, is that the 700s are slated as being a ‘Bose AR’ product. Basically, Bose tells us that the headphones are equipped with motion sensors that detect the orientation of your head and body movement. The tech then enables the compatible Bose Music app to tailor audio to your activity. Bose is calling Bose AR “a first-of-its-kind audio augmented reality platform”.

The company goes on to state:

Bose AR unlocks the potential to experience fundamentally new ways to travel, exercise, learn, play and more by augmenting your world with content for your ears instead of your eyes.

To me, this kinda sounds like what the Audeze Mobius headset does but will wait until we’ve tried the new Bose before commenting.

Finally, the 0.25Kg Bose 700 also possesses a new touch interface that’s said to provide intuitive gesture-based controls.

Price and Availability

Pre-orders for the £349.95/$399.95 Bose Noise Cancelling Headphones 700 are open now over in the US of A with shipping commencing on June 20th. Word is that we can expect pre-orders to open in the UK and Europe very soon.

Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.

Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.

The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.

We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
