Bowers & Wilkins Announce DB Series Subwoofers

A new flagship subwoofer series has been announced by Bowers & Wilkins. Containing three models within the DB Series, these are the most advanced subwoofers from the West Sussex based company yet.

Featuring the Aerofoil cone basss drivers as used in the brand's flagship 800 Series Diamond loudspeakers, the DB1D (12"), DB2D (10") and compact DB3D (8") the new range is said to incorporate new digital technology and materials advances.

John Martin, Brand Manager for B&W in Australia told StereoNET:

All three models have massive power on tap – with the DB1D featuring an impressive 2000 watts – plus dual-opposed drive units and incredibly rigid cabinets, all aspects that dramatically reduce distortion for deep, agile bass. Quite simply, the DB Series models are the best-sounding subwoofers in their class.

While the DB1D has a 2000w amplifier, the smaller DB2D and DB3D subwoofers use 1000w amplifiers, a more compact version of the DB1D. According to B&W an all-new digital pre-amplifier ensures sound is always delivered at optimum levels, and implements B&W developed DSP technology such as Dynamic EQ and Room EQ ensure precision performance in every space.

Impressively, according to their reported specifications, all three subwoofers in the range have a frequency response that is just -3 dB point at 10 Hz.

Always at the forefront of technology, B&W have also developed smart technology for the DB series, allowing a dedicated mobile App to assist with positioning guides, set-up and troubleshooting. Available for iOS and Android, the App can also be used to provide control over both output and audio presets.

Martin continued:

The new DB Series are obvious partners for the flagship 800 Series Diamond loudspeakers, but can easily be used with the CM Series or other loudspeakers. We're very excited about this new range, and whether used in a cinema system, a home installation or to complement stereo loudspeakers, these subwoofers are the most advanced, powerful and best-sounding subwoofers in their class.

All three models will be available in a choice of three finishes: Gloss Black, Satin White and Rosenut.

Local pricing has not been confirmed as yet, but they will be available in Australia mid-year.

Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.

Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.

The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.

We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
