New JAVA Hi-Fi Amps Bring Power, Precision, and Carbon

Award-winning Kiwi audio brand ramps up its range with six new models, a fresh DAC, and serious CARBON appeal.
New Zealand-based high-end audio manufacturer JAVA Hi-Fi is significantly expanding its amplifier range, announcing six new models, introducing a high-performance R2R ladder DAC, and debuting CARBON editions of its preamplifiers and power amplifiers.
The move follows the remarkable global reception of JAVA’s CARBON integrated amplifiers, which only launched in January 2024 and have already become the company’s best-selling models.
Founder and CEO Martin Bell told StereoNET that the customer response was clear and too compelling to ignore:
“A number of customers have asked whether we were planning to produce a CARBON version of our pre-amplifiers and power amplifiers. They spoke, and we listened!
Now, that vision is becoming a reality. JAVA’s CARBON series separates will feature the identical 9mm-thick carbon fibre outer casework that helped make the integrated amps successful, delivering improved vibration damping and greater immunity to electromagnetic and radio frequency interference. The new models also benefit from internal upgrades, including revised circuitry in the LDR preamplifiers, Kryo binding posts on the power amps, Silver RCA connectors, and IsoAcoustics Gaia IV isolation feet throughout.
Alongside the new separates, JAVA is introducing two additions to its integrated amplifier range. The Single Shot 400 effectively doubles the output of the original Single Shot integrated amp to a powerful 400W into 8 ohms. In comparison, the Double Shot 200 offers a more affordable take on the balanced Double Shot concept by halving the power output to 200W into 8 ohms. According to Bell, the new additions fill a vital gap in the amplifier range and provide customers with even more choices when balancing price, power, and connectivity options.
Another significant upgrade is coming in May when JAVA will begin rolling out a new in-house developed USB DAC module across its Single Shot and Double Shot integrated amps. Replacing the current Burr-Brown DAC, the new design is based on dual Analogue Devices AD1865 18-bit chips in a non-oversampling configuration. Renowned for their organic, natural sound, these DACs can handle files up to 768kHz and are powered by a dedicated linear regulator.
JAVA has also implemented native MSB (Most Significant Bit) adjustment on the DAC, improving linearity and reducing distortion around the zero-crossing point. Double Shot models will receive an additional refinement in the form of a dedicated DAC board per channel in a fully balanced configuration, minimising crosstalk and enhancing measured performance.
The CARBON pre-amplifiers and power amplifiers are expected to begin shipping in May 2025.

Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.
Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.
The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.
We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
