Børresen Debuts the M2 High-End Loudspeaker

Danish loudspeaker specialist Audio Group Denmark's Børresen Acoustics has unveiled its latest high-end floor stander, the M2.
Positioned within the brand’s ultra-premium M Series, the M2 is all about pushing engineering boundaries with cutting-edge materials and groundbreaking design. This could be the one if you're after a statement speaker that combines cutting-edge technology with sonic finesse.
At the core of the M2’s innovation is a driver basket unlike any other. Rather than opting for traditional materials, Børresen has turned to zirconium and 3D printing, crafting a topology-optimized basket designed to maximise stiffness while minimising resonance. The result? A structure engineered to retain energy where it matters and eliminate noise where it doesn’t. Developed using extensive computer-optimized finite element analysis, the basket is said to set a new benchmark in vibration control.
The midrange and woofer diaphragms take things even further. They are built in-house and feature a four-layer composite spread to carbon fibre, an aramid honeycomb core, a titanium layer, and an Ansuz Supreme coating. This combination, Børresen claims, results in unparalleled stiffness, low resonance, and an ultra-precise sound. Any residual resonance is pushed two octaves beyond the operational frequency range, ensuring unwanted distortions stay out of earshot.
The M2’s iron-free magnet system continues Børresen’s tradition of eliminating ferromagnetic distortion. Børresen has swapped out the copper pole rings found in previous models for custom silver rings, a move aimed at enhancing conductivity and driving inductance even lower. The result? Greater precision in driver movement, which Børresen says translates to improved dynamics, better control, and an even more refined, linear performance.
On the high-frequency count, the stats on the ribbon tweeter are impressive. Børresen quotes a moving mass of just 0.01 grams. While an efficiency of 94 dB and an operating frequency of upwards of 2.5 kHz,
The M2 also features an innovative crossover design, opting for a series crossover configuration rather than the conventional parallel setup. By ensuring all drivers share the same electrical current in the crossover region, Børresen claims to have achieved a more phase-coherent and natural sound. The choice of crossover components appears to be equally impressive with military-grade capacitors, paper-insulated foil coils and ultra-low-noise resistors.
Of course, the true test will be in the listening, but on paper, at least, the M2’s performance credentials are undeniably impressive. With a reported frequency response of 30 Hz–50 kHz, 86 dB sensitivity, and six-ohm impedance, it places itself firmly among elite reference-grade speakers like the Wilson Audio Alexx V and Magico M6. At nearly 1.3 meters tall and weighing in at almost 65 kg, the M2 is a substantial presence in any listening space.
The latest flagship from Denmark’s Audio Group and Børresen Acoustics is sure to turn heads—and ears—whenever the opportunity arises at a show or private demo. Available in high-gloss black or white lacquer, the M2 is as much a statement piece as it is a high-fidelity marvel. But for most, that might be the only chance to experience it, as ownership comes with a formidable price tag of €175,000!

applause awards
Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.
Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.
The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.
We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
