Closer Acoustics Blocks Modular Speaker System Launched

Closer Acoustics' Blocks modular loudspeaker line features full-range and open-baffle speaker modules.
Closer Acoustics has dedicated a decade to what it describes as "the purest expression of music" through wide-band driver-based loudspeakers. This has now culminated in launching its new Blocks modular speaker system—an innovative, flexible way to achieve "outstanding sound tailored to different tastes, room acoustics, and amplifier types."
The Blocks system is based on Closer's OGY standmounter, a 10 cm full-range driver (8 Ohm, 15W, 91dB efficiency) in a transmission line enclosure, and BOB (Bass Open Baffle) bass modules. These are joined by OKHO, a wide-band speaker designed to bring "depth, clarity, and natural musicality" and features an EMS 12-inch (30.5 cm) wide-band driver, previously featured in Closer Acoustics' flagship Vigo.
The Polish brand states that OKHO sports a dual diaphragm in an open U-shaped enclosure engineered for high efficiency (97.5 dB) and a resonant frequency of 34Hz, making it an ideal match for open-baffle designs.
Closer tells us that, unlike traditional multi-driver speakers relying on crossovers that can introduce phase distortions, OKHO's single-driver design ensures a cohesive and highly natural sound reproduction.
Closer Acoustics has also fine-tuned its Bass Open Baffle unit (8 Ohm, 100W, 94dB efficiency) to create BOB MKII. Thanks to their open-baffle design, BOB modules promise to prevent unwanted booming while enhancing the 40–200 Hz range.
The upgrades include removing the terminal with an inductive coil in favour of a higher-quality individual coil integrated with the driver. Meanwhile, the speaker terminals are now high-grade pure copper units compatible with spades, bananas, and bare wire. BOB MkII also benefits from Cardas' 9.5 AWG pure copper internal wiring. Finally, acoustically transparent fabric has been added to the module's rear for dust protection.
Rounding off the system is Blank, an empty enclosure that raises your chosen configuration to the ideal listening height. Finally, all modules can be placed on a Platform with ISO Acoustics GAIA II anti-vibration feet, further enhancing sound precision.
Closer suggests the following module combinations:
- Smaller Room: Blank → BOB → OGY (€6.490)
- Basic Setup: Blank → BOB → OKHO (€7.210)
- Maximum Bass Reinforcement: BOB → BOB → OKHO (€9.350)
- Large Room Configuration: Blank → BOB → OKHO → BOB (€10.093)
Regional pricing has not yet been confirmed as the Blocks system is offered directly from Closer Acoustics.

applause awards
Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.
Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.
The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.
We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
