CONNECTING THE DOTS WITH ORIGIN ACOUSTICS AND VALET

The voice control market is heating up right now with Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant and Apple Siri all vying for top spot. Our money's on Alexa if this year’s Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas was anything to go by. Alexa has been integrated into everything from washing machines, coffee machines, light bulbs and loads more.
While Amazon and Alexa have not yet officially launched in Australia, like me, you may have googled a few workarounds and have Dots and Echos scattered around your home already.
You know Amazon have done something right when your five-year-old daughter can stroll through the house commanding Alexa to turn lights on and off, or play the Sing movie soundtrack in one room or all.
But it’s a new product from Origin Acoustics and Valet Amplifiers that promises to integrate Alexa into the home, smarter and neater than ever before.
Valet Amplifiers combine the best of architectural speakers and voice controlled audio. Amazon Music, Spotify, and other streaming services can all be accessed and played through Valet's system directly from the Dot.
With a patent-pending ceiling flush mount system, the Amazon Echo Dot can be mounted behind a perforated speaker grill making it virtually invisible.
The Valet amplifiers delivers fifty watts per channel and are available in four or six zone configurations. Both models send power to and return audio from up to four Echo Dots, using exclusive ground-breaking technology and all via a single CAT5 cable.
External sources can also be played through the amplifier and Valet’s muting circuit will quiet the source when Alexa is addressed and unmute when the appropriate action is completed.
It’s no surprise that Origin Acoustics are behind this next generation of multi-room integration. After all, they did invent the in-wall speaker.
The exact features are still a little sketchy and Origin are only teasing this technology for the moment.
With over 30 million Alexa units already sold to date, we have no doubt Alexa will likely emerge as the voice control champion.

applause awards
Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.
Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.
The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.
We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
