Convoy Appoints Martin Ireland To Top Sales Position

Sydney-based wholesaler Convoy International celebrates over half a century as leading importer and distributor of some of the finest consumer electronics brands available.

But the last few years have been anything but smooth sailing.

Convoy Management dealt with the tumultuous task of reinventing itself following the considered decision to exit the mass market just three years ago. Then there were the numerous key-staff and distributed brand changes within the portfolio, and as if that wasn't enough to sink a good ship, the tragic loss of founder Geoff Matthews who passed away earlier this year. Yet, despite all this, Convoy, which is now in the hands of Geoff's son David, has shown it has the solid foundations and resilience to emerge triumphant in an ever-changing marketplace.

Perhaps an unfortunate date as this is far from a horror story, but Friday the 13th of December marks yet another milestone at the Milperra, Sydney head office of Convoy. Starting today, Martin Ireland has joined Convoy as National Sales & Marketing Manager.

Martin Ireland told StereoNET:

I am honoured to be appointed to this role at Convoy International, a company with such an amazing history and solid reputation in the industry. Given the strength of the current brand portfolio, along with some exciting projects in the pipeline, I look forward to working closely with the team and our retail partners to grow our respective businesses.

Martin joins Convoy following his Sales position at Bowers & Wilkins Australia and many years at Sennheiser Australia before that.

On Martin's appointment, David Matthews, Managing Director at Convoy, added:

Convoy is excited to announce the appointment of Martin Ireland as our National Sales & Marketing Manager. Martin will be known to many in the industry, and he brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to Convoy. This is the first stage in many exciting things to come from Convoy as we continue to evolve as a company and deliver the best possible service to our customers, and the Australian consumer audio and video market.

StereoNET wishes Martin the best success in his new role.

applause awards

Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.

Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.

The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.

We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
