DigiBit Announce Aria Piccolo Music Server

DigiBit, based in Madrid, Spain, have announced their new aria piccolo music server this week, promising high-end sound and convenience at affordable pricing. Launching only a couple of years ago, the Digibit company and aria brand is already attracting many fans.
StereoNET reviewed the more expensive aria mini earlier this year with very pleasing results, and were aware that the aria piccolo would be coming later in the year.
aria piccolo, is a ripper, streamer, multi-room player and DLNA server which has been designed for budget conscious users and according to the company, "sets a new reference in price/performance ratio for an all-in-one system".
aria's powerful software allows users to sort and view their music collection in multiple ways such as: albums from the romantic (Period) for piano (Instrument), played by Maurizio Pollini (Soloist). The iaria apps for iOS and Android are regarded by many as the very best in the industry, with an unlimited number of extended metadata fields for any music genre.
The new piccolo model is a fanless design with ultra-low power consumption, allowing it to be left on and ready to play your favorite music, and is available in two storage options, 2TB HDD or 1TB SSD. The facility also exists to add additional external HDD or NAS storage. It can also be specified without DAC or with an internal DAC supporting up to 32bits-384KHz and DSD256.
An exciting new addition is also the support for Bluetooth 4.0, wifi 802.11.ac and a new semi-custom computer board from intel with a new powerful Celeron processor.
There is also an optional external DVD-R drive which allows fully automatic ripping providing fast rips, and error-free data retrieval. Metadata retrieval is also very successful thanks to its automatic use of three premium databases: Rovi, GD3 and SonataDB, and two additional open access databases: FreeDB and Musicbrainz.
aria piccolo can also play different music programs in different rooms by streaming to Airplay™ and DLNA™ compatible devices. You may also listen your music collection with headphones streamed to your control device.
DigiBit's aria piccolo will be available in December, as well as the optional DAC. Local pricing hasn't been confirmed yet.

applause awards
Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.
Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.
The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.
We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
