Electrocompaniet Launches ECI 80D Integrated Amplifier

Norway's Electrocompaniet and its new product announcements are generally few and far between, and that's a good thing, but also cause for us to get excited when a new product is finally released.

The latest addition to its Classic Line series, the ECI 80D is an entry-level, feature-packed and exceptional value integrated amplifier.

Utilising an in-house developed Class A/B amplifier design boasting 2 x 80 watts (8 Ohms), it's also equipped with a built-in RIAA phono pre-amp (MM cartridge support), 2-way Bluetooth HD for both streaming from your iOS, Android unit, Mac or PC, and also HD streaming to your High-end headphones.

Around back there are two analogue singled ended inputs, five digital inputs (2 COAX, 3 Toslink), and two headphones-out connections.

Philippe Luder of Audio Dynamics, which distributes Electrocompaniet in Australia, told StereoNET:

The amplifier is carefully balanced between good bass extension and control, a detailed open midrange and a warm detailed top, as with all Electrocompaniet's quality products.

Of course, ownership will afford you the legendary Electrocompaniet sound and unique aesthetics with an attractive form-factor, and an amplifier capable of controlling a wide range of speakers on the market.

Philippe pointed out that initial stock of the ECI 80D arrived in January this year and was promptly sold out. The good news is more stock has arrived, and the ECI 80D is available now for $4999 RRP.

applause awards

Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.

Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.

The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.

We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
