Foxtel Takes On Netflix with Binge

From next week consumers will have more video streaming choice with Foxtel launching 'Binge', it's answer to Netflix and Stan and the growing streaming video-on-demand (SVOD) market.

The SVOD market is already well established with Disney+, Amazon's Prime Video, Stan. FandangoNOW and many others. While Foxtel is late to the party, its already successful sports streaming platform, Kayo has paved the way for Foxtel to now take on the broader SVOD market.

Launching Monday 25th May 2020, Foxtel chief executive Patrick Delany, said:

We have been beta-testing the service for a few weeks and we are sure Australians will love everything about it. It brings an exciting new brand to younger streaming audiences with a very different and compelling product experience, and a distinctly curated mix of the best drama and movies from the world's best entertainment brands,

Binge has released its three-tiered pricing structure with the Basic Plan (Standard Definition, 1 Simultaneous Stream) costing $10 month. The Standard Plan (High Definition, 2 Simultaneous Stream) being charged at $14 month. While Binge's top tier, Premium (High Definition, 4 Simultaneous Streams) will cost $18 per month. Where content permits, all plans are said to offer Dolby Surround sound.

Delany added:

Our new entertainment streaming service, which launches next Monday, provides a different curation of the Foxtel group's entertainment content focussed on mobile devices and the streaming generation who want to share on the big screen. It is distinctly branded and aimed at part of the Australian market who either don't want to pay for our premium product or who have decided Foxtel is not for them.

You'll be able to access Binge from Monday 25th May, with apps for PC and Mac (Chrome, Windows 10, Safari, Firefox and Edge), iOS (with iOS 12 or higher OS), Android, Apple TV (fourth generation or higher), Android TV (v7.0 operating system or higher), Telstra TV, Chromecast (except first generation).

applause awards

Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.

Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.

The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.

We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
