Gold Note DS-10 Plus Announced

Gold Note has released an upgraded version of its long-running Gold Note DS-10 Network Player/DAC/Headphone amplifier - the DS-10 Plus.

Following the news of Gold Note's P-1000 MkII is the DS-10 Plus, which sees the compact high-end hi-fi front end add an analogue option to its host of digital inputs.

The Italian high-grade hi-fi maker has taken its popular DS-10 and fitted it with analogue input. Oddly, its a 3.5mm stereo jack on the rear panel rather than a set of RCA. However, this still makes it a more versatile front end as it now covers both analogue and digital sources, the latter going via an AKM AK9943 DAC.

As well as its new-found analogue connectivity, you still get a Coax, a pair of Opticals, an AES/EBU XLR, a USB-B for audio (DSD512), and a USB-A for storage drives. Additionally, there are stereo RCA outs from the DAC section as well as stereo RCA, XLR for pre-amp outputs. You also get a 6.3mm headphones jack on the front panel.

The aerial hints at its Wi-Fi skills (you can hardwire it using an Ethernet cable, too), although you can also send music to the Gold Note DS-10 by way of Bluetooth 5.0. This clever little unit will take your networked audio as well as enable you to stream through Roon, Airplay, Tidal, Qobuz, Spotify and Deezer. It will also decode MQA, as well as DSD64 on LAN, and PCM up to 24/192.

All you need is a pair of active speakers or, use the DS-10 Plus as a pre-amplifier, and you're golden.

The new Gold Note DS-10 Plus is available now in Black, Silver, or Gold brushed aluminium finishes for €2,890 / £2,999.

applause awards

Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.

Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.

The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.

We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
