Goldmund THA2 Telos Headphone Amplifier

After the success of Goldmund’s Telos Headphone Amplifier and its 6 Moons Award, the manufacturer have gone on to improve the THA2 model, which has the ability to also adapt to any impedance. It’s the amplifier that can drive all headphones, even the most sensitive ones.
The Goldmund THA2 Telos Headphone Amplifier boasts exceptional dynamics, while providing a unique linearity and perfect channel balance. With this newly revised model, the Goldmund THA2 Telos Headphone Amplifier will enchant any headphone aficionados with its latest feature, 'binaural encoding'.
Binaural encoding has been developed through the creation of algorithms that transform standard recordings into binaural streams, that Goldmund says "now any normal track can benefit from this feature thanks to a simple switch on the front panel of the amplifier."
For recordings that are already recorded in binaural, the switch should simply be on the STD position. In addition to a clear sense of depth, this feature greatly improves the natural balance between instruments and provides a completely clear picture of the layout of the orchestra or band.
Weighing in at just 12 kg, the Goldmund THA2 Telos Headphone Amplifier contains a frequency response of +/-0.55 dB (20 Hz - 20 kHz unloaded), and a dynamic range of >100 dB (no weighting).
Housing a digital volume knob on front panel, the THA2 is readily controlled and inputs are easily selectable through a front panel switch. With the onboard DAC (384kHz/32bit), inputs include a USB device (Audio Class 2.0), a Toslink Optical or digital S/PDIF coaxial, and one analog RCA (Left & Right) for ADC conversion for DSP correction.
For fine-tuning, the THA2 is gain adjustable for low or high sensitivity headphones. It even has an RS232 command connector so you can integrate the amplifier with your home automation system.
With extreme performance at the core of the THA2 Telos Headphone Amplifier, it boasts DSD over PCM capabilities, new binaural features, and customisation possibilities; the THA2 will undoubtedly remain the reference in terms of headphone amplification for a very long time.
The Goldmund THA2 Telos Headphone Amplifier is available now for $13,800 RRP.
Goldmund is distributed in Australia by Absolute Hi End.

applause awards
Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.
Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.
The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.
We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
