Nordost White Lightning 3 Figure 8 Power Cord Released

Joining Nordost's Leif 3 series, which was announced last year, the White Lightning 3 Power Cord has been "designed to meet a growing demand created by changing product specifications", says the connectivity specialist.
We're told that, as new audio equipment's efficiency improves and power requirements decrease, Figure 8 connectors are now replacing traditional IEC cables in many new hi-fi products. Spotlight on the White Lightning 3 Power Cord, said to be "designed for music lovers who want to enhance the sound of their system" by replacing the inferior, manufacturer-supplied Figure 8 cable.
The White Lightning 3 Power Cord features Nordost's proprietary Micro Mono-Filament construction, 18 AWG OFC conductors, and FEP insulation. The manufacturer states that "the White Lightning 3 Power Cord provides the foundation for superior sound quality, allowing a hi-fi component to perform at its best", resulting in enhanced clarity, depth, and dynamics of a recording.
The new introductory power cord promises sturdy, reliable AC power while minimising the harmful effects of electromagnetic interference and radio frequencies. A growing range of amplifiers, network streamers, DACs, active speakers, subwoofers, and compact systems all use Figure 8 connections, and "most will benefit from the improved sound quality delivered by this high-performance Nordost power cord."
Nordost tells us that this new range results from years of technological breakthroughs and advancements in craftsmanship. The company says it utilises optimal materials, unique geometry, and filter-less technology to deliver dynamic, low-loss, and lifelike performance from any audio system. The Leif 3 series includes four ranges: White Lightning, Purple Flare, Blue Heaven, and Red Dawn, each offering power cords, interconnects, and loudspeaker cables.
Each range within the Leif 3 series benefits from heavier gauge sizes and updated connectors. We are told to expect expanded dynamic expression, increased musical nuance, and realistic precision in timing. The White Lightning 3 Power Cord replaces the previous Purple Flare version.
The Managing Director of Renaissance, Nordost's UK and Ireland distributor, John Carroll, told StereoNET:
Replacing a manufacturer-supplied Figure 8 cable with a White Lightning 3 Power Cord is probably the simplest upgrade that can be made to a hi-fi system. Improvements in sound quality are immediate and easy to discern. This new entry-level power cord is the ideal match for a huge range of products and will set many music lovers on the audio upgrade path in their pursuit of perfect performance.
The Nordost White Lightning 3 Power Cord is available now with an MSRP starting at £219 / A$399. We are awaiting confirmed pricing for other territories.
Please note: While the images show European-style plugs, the White Lightning 3 Figure-8 Power Cords are also available with Australian and New Zealand-compatible plugs. These were not available for photography at the time of publication.

applause awards
Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.
Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.
The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.
We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
