Goldring GR3 - The Company’s First Turntable After 20-Year Break

Goldring's first turntable in almost two decades merges modern convenience with the brand's heritage.
Most recent enthusiasts will undoubtedly associate Goldring with cartridges, as the 118-year-old brand has been rather quiet on the turntable front since 2005's GR2.
That's all set to change with Goldring's GR3 turntable, a manual, belt-drive design with tonearm and cartridge included. It features a phenolic resin platter with enhanced flywheel effect – greater mass on the rim – that should ensure consistent rotational speed across both 33 1/3 and 45 rpm settings.
Goldring says the new deck has been developed in collaboration "with a renowned British hi-fi manufacturer" – we think you vinylistas probably didn't even need the hint.
The GR3 aims to make setting up and playing records easy. It comes fitted with a Goldring E3 cartridge and packs an integrated phono preamp, meaning you can plug this deck directly into a pair of active speakers or any amplifier.
The GR3 is also bundled with a pair of interconnect cables from QED: one phono-to-phono cable (1.5m) and one phono-to-3.5mm cable (3m long). These cables give you options to suit your setup and aid Goldring's plug-and-play goal.
Goldring finds itself in an extremely packed arena with many brands, including its Brit collaborator, all vying for a share. It will be interesting to see how the GR3 is welcomed and, more importantly, how the package performs.
The Goldring GR3 turntable is available now in a high-gloss black finish and costs £699/ €899.

applause awards
Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.
Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.
The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.
We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
