GRADO SURPRISES WITH GW100 BLUETOOTH HEADPHONES

Brooklyn-based headphone maestros, Grado Labs, is renowned for its open-backed ear-pleasers. However, did anyone think they'd see the day that the New York boutique brand would go Bluetooth?

Grado has hand-built headphones for audiophiles for over 60 years now. The headphones are revered for both their quality construction as much as their audio quality; the open-air cans have many admirers. But now Grado has taken most of us by surprise with the quiet revelation on their blog that their latest release, the GW100, is Bluetooth compatible.

Grado GW100 Wireless

Firstly, worry not, the GW100 features the same open-air design, retro-inspired look, and Grado’s audio drivers.

Grado told StereoNET

“We took our time and made no compromises in the GW-100. Nothing is lost except the wires. Inside the GW100 are our signature Grado drivers, the same ones found in our wired headphone line."

The company added:

"Throughout our wired headphones the drivers are changed for the housing they're in, and the GW100 is no different. We've configured these specifically for the wireless headphones."

Grado GW100 side

The GW100 is also packing a built-in microphone for hands-free calling.

Presently, there is no exact UK release date or pricing given by Grado. However, the company’s official US online store has the GW100 listed for $249 so; this puts them in Prestige Series pricing.

Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.

The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.

We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality.
