Jadis Unveils JP7 & PA70 Pre/ Power Duo
The new JP7 pre and PA70 power valve amplifiers from Jadis promise liberté sonique.
Made in southern France and designed to work either as a pair or individually, the Jadis PA70 power amplifier and Jadis JP7 preamplifier promise "seamless, fluid and free-breathing" sound all wrapped in the French firm's signature steel and gold chassis.
JADIS PA70 POWER AMP
According to Jadis, the purposeful-looking PA70 power amplifier utilises its valve design to present high power and low distortion. This, in no small part thanks to the KT170 tube, results in a detailed, fluid sound with plenty of dynamic range.
The PA70 uses eight valves, four of which are the aforementioned KT170 model previously used in the Applause Award-winning Jadis I70 valve integrated amp, alongside a pair of ECC83 and a brace of ECC82 tubes. This totals 50W of Class A power per channel.
The gang of vacuum tubes is joined by a large, newly designed transformer that delivers "prodigious dynamic and pulse power" while also enabling the amp to work in a single push-pull, ultra-linear, triple-load configuration. Moreover, the driver and power stage supplies are independent, which should mean less compromised power for each circuit.
Of course, we also have to acknowledge the PA70's polished stainless steel casement and 24-carat gold-plated front panel, which, combined with the glass valves, make it look like a work of audio art.
JADIS JP7 PREAMPLIFIER
The attractive PA70 power amp is joined by the suave JP7 valve preamplifier, the brand's most compact (30x29x9.5cm) and affordable option.
The Jadis JP7 houses a trio of ECC83 valves and offers five line-level RCA inputs. The preamp also has a remote control, so you won't have to constantly polish the unit's gold-plated control dials.
Alongside the gold plating, the JP7 sports the same non-magnetic stainless steel casing as the PA70. However, as lovely as all that looks, we are assured that "extensive vibration-damping techniques" are contained within to mitigate unwanted oscillations that could affect the fidelity of your sound.
The Jadis PA70 stereo valve power amplifier (£10,500/ €11,000) and JP7 valve preamplifier (£4,798/ €4,800) are available now, and you have an option of ordering either with a silver or gold faceplate.

applause awards
Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.
Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.
The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.
We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
