JBL’s Stage Loudspeakers More Affordable

If there's one thing American speaker giant JBL knows, it's the stage, and live reproduction. Its entry-level line of loudspeakers aptly named 'Stage' delivers what JBL has learned from over 70 years in music reproduction and loudspeaker design.

The already popular Stage series features retro styling and comprises three floor-standing speakers, two bookshelf speakers, two choices of centre channels and two subwoofers.

And now, it's even more affordable. Australian distributor, Convoy, has negotiated even better pricing, and while other brands are subject to price rises with the weakening Australian dollar, JBL Stage has dropped its prices.

Available in either Black or Woodgrain finish, the new prices which are effective immediately are as follows: Stage A120 $(399 RRP) and A130 bookshelf ($549) speakers, floor standing loudspeakers including the A170 ($1,199 RRP), A180 and A190 ($1,599 RRP and $1,999 RRP respectively), along with the A125C and A135C centre channels ($549 RRP and $649 RRP). Delivering extra bass for the range is Stage A100P ($749 RRP) which is a 10-inch subwoofer, while the Stage A120P is a 12-inch subwoofer ($949 RRP). In some cases, the RRP has been lowered by up to $800.

David Matthews, Managing Director of Convoy, told StereoNET:

JBL's Stage series has already proven popular for affordable home cinema systems and two-channel enthusiasts. Stage builds on the brand's previous Arena series which was already one of the best value-for-money speaker lines on the market. We're proud to offer our new lower pricing thanks to our strengthened relationship with Harman International. We are confident that consumers will be hard-pressed to find better value and performance from any loudspeaker brand.

Stage series features specially braced enclosures to ensure they are rigid and free from resonance. JBL says that the combination of bracing pattern, materials and construction are part of the company's DNA dating back to when they engineered the loudspeaker for the very first talking movie.

The range also utilises Polycellullose woofers which have been developed by JBL over decades. The stiffer cones deliver more uniform pistonic motion for deeper, tighter bass, according to JBL.

JBL's Stage series is available at selected dealers now.

applause awards

Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.

Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.

The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.

We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
