KEF ANNOUNCES LS50 WIRELESS NOCTURNE EDITION

The KEF LS50 is the loudspeaker that just keeps giving. First came the LS50 which received accolades around the globe from reviewers and enthusiasts.

Then came the assorted range of colours for punters to choose from as a 'limited edition'.

The biggest news though was the highly anticipated Wireless release, an active powered version of the LS50. A range of software and firmware releases have since brought with them added functionality and connectivity.

Just when you think KEF have run out of ideas, along comes the latest announcement.

LEF Nocturne Event - Amsterdam

Announced via a special event this week held for select journalists around the world (StereoNET was invited but declined a 35 hour round trip flight for less than a day in Amsterdam), the LS50 Wireless 'Nocturne' edition is a collaboration between KEF and design studio, Marcel Wanders.

The marketing blurb reads:

It's sensuous aesthetic quality sets it apart from every other music system, creating a magically compelling audio system that is in a class of its own.

Marcel Wanders is a leading product and interior design studio located in Amsterdam, credited with 1,900+ iconic projects.

Like the limited edition LS50 models, Nocturne is a cosmetic makeover of the LS50 Wireless. The specs remain the same.

Wanders has taken inspiration from the circular UniQ driver design.

The rhythmic design that is inspired by the circular arrangement of time presents a structured, architectural-type pattern from a distance. Upon closer inspection, the two-dimensional, textured surface reveals several different types of musical elements layered throughout. Placed around the centre focal point, musical notes and symbols references add to the seemingly unending depth of the thoughtfully detailed design. Much like a musical composition, the final result finds the surface shapes coming together to create one unified design. Playing off the product name, when the lights are turned off the product continues to captivate late into the evening as selected elements glow in the dark.

Wanders adds:

There is an orchestrated tempo to this medley. By allowing for individual discovery of the musical elements, the design possesses a distinctive rhythm all of its own.

KEF LS50 Wireless Nocturne Edition

In Australia the KEF LS50 Wireless Nocturne Edition will be available at the end of November, and will sell for $4,799 RRP. The distributor has told us that stock will be extremely limited.

applause awards

Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.

Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.

The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.

We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
