KEF Planning Something Special for Sixty Year Celebrations
KEF is marking its 60th birthday with "several new boundary-pushing products" as well as announcing its new charitable foundation. Furthermore, October has become International KEF Month (IKM).
Kent Engineering and Foundry, or KEF to its hi-fi friends, was founded in 1961 by Raymond Cooke in Maidstone. A BBC trained engineer, Cooke went on to work for Gilbert Briggs at Wharfedale for five years before forging (pun intended) his own path and experimenting with plastic driver cones.
KEF pioneered the early use of synthetic materials and claims to be the first company to use computer simulation to measure and develop speaker performance. This has since been followed by creating the British firm developing its Uni-Q, Uni-Core, and Metamaterial Absorption technologies, and it doesn't show any signs of slowing down. In fact, the company's latest press reads: "In this anniversary year, KEF will launch the most advanced products it has ever created – to be announced in the coming months – which will again push the boundaries of the listening experience, both at home and on the move."
Indeed, something worthy of marking sixty years has to be a high-end statement, right? Well, KEF has a couple of worthy contenders that are already a decade-or-so old - we're looking at you, Blade and Muon! However, KEF could, of course, equally have an all-new anniversary surprise ready and waiting in the wings.
KEF's foundation supports the unsung heroes of the audio world through grants and scholarships; to put coming generations through leading courses and offer grants for activations and initiatives that push the boundaries in the audio space.
