According to KEF, the R Series seven-model range is engineered to provide superior performance with more detail, deeper insight and greater excitement.

The new R Series includes a selection of the latest technologies developed for KEF's The Reference. The R Series can be used in a two-channel stereo system or a complete home theatre set-up.

KEF's clever Metamaterial Absorption Technology (MAT) is at the centre of the new range. This complex maze-like structure features intricate channels that efficiently absorb a specific frequency and act as an acoustic black hole when combined. The result is that 99% of the unwanted sound from the rear of the tweeter is absorbed, eliminating the resulting distortion and providing a purer, more natural acoustic performance.

A bespoke 12th-generation Uni-Q driver array with MAT (shown below) is found in all seven models of the R Series alongside tweaks, such as the refined tweeter gap damper that tames resonances for improved detail to the flexible Decoupling Chassis, which prevents unwanted vibrations for better clarity. These, along with constrained layer damping bracing, all add up to present an enhanced experience.

Meanwhile, The Reference's hybrid aluminium bass drivers (below) promise tight, deep, and controlled bass, while the improved crossover design and fine-tuned signal path result in pristine, clean sound.

The latest-gen R Series features a trio of floor-standing speakers, the R11 Meta, R7 Meta and R5 Meta, and the R3 Meta bookshelf speaker. These are targeted at stereo hi-fi fans.

Additionally, KEF says that its two centre speakers, the R6 Meta and R2 Meta, can also be used in LCR (Left-Centre-Right) configuration and deliver brilliant dialogue clarity to the home theatre experience in different room sizes.

Identically sized Uni-Q arrays are deployed on the centre speakers and all other models in the series, creating a consistent sound character and ensuring that the focus is entirely on the film and not the equipment around the room.

For Dolby Atmos, the R8 Meta surround speaker can be brought into play as it can be wall-mounted or placed on top of another R Series loudspeaker. Then, just add any of KEF's subwoofers for a fully immersive experience.

Each model in the R Series comes with Microfibre grilles, offering the perfect balance between driver protection, sonic performance, and aesthetics. In addition, you get a choice of three finishes: Black Gloss, White Gloss, and Walnut.

Furthermore, two models also have their own signature finish options: the Titanium Gloss Special Edition for R7 Meta, and the Indigo Gloss Special Edition for R3 Meta.

The R3 Meta also features threaded insets that allow the speaker to be mounted securely onto the top of the KEF S3 Floor Stands, which also boast integrated cable management and a mass-loadable column.

The new KEF R Series is available now with the R11 Meta priced at £5,500 per pair, the R7 Meta at £4,000 per pair and the R5 Meta costing £3,000 per pair.

The R3 Meta costs £1,900 per pair, while the R6 Meta and R2 Meta are priced at £1,600 and £1,200 per piece, respectively. Finally, the R8 Meta is £1,400 per pair.

The S3 Floor Stands are an optional extra at £649 per pair.

The Special Edition finishes are available from Summer 2023.
