KEF’s Tilt Into TV Sound

Traditional speaker brand KEF is the latest legacy brand to romp into Soundbars. KEF’s offering is the KEF V soundbar and wireless subwoofer which KEF says are adept at bringing Vocals to life along with supplying trouser flapping bass and terrific sound effects.

KEF’s V700 is slim and built for TV screens of 47-inches and bigger. The sleek and minimalist design sees a chassis that’s just 53 mm (2.1-inch) deep which is neat enough to install under a screen or on a wall mount. Alternatively it can placed on furniture using the supplied stands which will tilt the Soundbar angling it for the best listing position.

Steering the sound is down to KEF’s unique ‘tangerine’ waveguide which the brand says adds a 3D quality while dispersing the sound for a dense three-dimensional sound picture, it will immerse the audience with superior high definition sound as it aims to help better disperse sound.

KEF’s ultra-compact V Series V720W powered subwoofer/soundsystem has a 20cm driver and a 200 watt class-D amplifier.

KEF V720

Inside the V700 soundbar there are four 11.5cm patented ultra-slim bass drivers and two 25mm aluminium tweeters, incorporating KEF’s unique ‘tangerine’ waveguide so it should certainly pack some punch and bring your flat screen to life. With an integral Class D digital amplifier, you don't need another amp or AV receiver to enjoy true hi-fi sound. However, if you would like a bigger bass you can connect the wireless subwoofer.

The speakers are driven by an internal Class-D amplifier with switchable EQ modes, which can be accessed at the rear of the speaker to optimise bass response for wall or desk top placement.

If bigger bass is required the V700 can be used with any subwoofer model in the KEF range.

KEF V Series V700W Digital Soundbar RRP $1,199

KEV V Series V720W Sound System (V700W soundbar and V20W wireless subwoofer) RRP $1,599

KEF is distributed in Australia by Advance Audio Australia.

applause awards

Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.

Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.

The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.

We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
