Klipsch’s Capitol Idea

Two of the audio industry’s most enduring American brands have just announced a significant partnership.
Klipsch, the brand synonymous with large horn-loaded speakers and Capitol Records, the US record label that signed or distributed a swag of stars that are now regarded as worthy of a place in the pantheon of popular music, are getting together to launch new audio models.
Klipsch is globally famous for its range of easy to drive, horn loaded speakers.
And we can thank Capitol for Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole, Gene Vincent, Glen Campbell, Pink Floyd, the Beach Boys and the Beatles records finding their way onto the world’s Decca Dansette record players and later, stereo systems.
The pairing of Klipsch and Capitol Records is a special arrangement made to celebrate a special occasion: the 70th Anniversary of both brands.
Paul Jacobs, President and CEO of Klipsh paid tribute to the iconic companies contribution to music:
Music is timeless and unites people across cultures. Our global brands are committed to the enduring power of music and the emotion it evokes. We look forward to continuing our heritage and legacy around this great art form.
Music lovers and audiophiles are now celebrating the fruits of this timely partnership with Klipsch announcing co-branded Klipsch and Capitol Records Heritage Wireless products with the models taking on a mid-century, retro styling.
The new models comprise the Capitol One semi-portable tabletop speaker, the Capitol Three a larger tabletop speaker and the Capitol Heresy speaker that is handmade in Hope, Arkansas.
The Capitol One is a 2.1 channel stereo system with Bluetooth and analogue inputs. It’s also bi-amped and professionally tuned by Klipsch engineers. Drivers chosen for the Capitol One are a 4.5-inch woofer and a pair of 2.25-inch full range drivers. The Capitol One carries an 8-hour rechargeable battery and comes in a real wood, walnut or ebony finish.
The Capitol Three is fitted with a larger 5.25-inch long throw woofer and dual opposed 5.25-inch passive radiators along with a 192kHz/24-bit digital to analogue convertor.
Designed as a Klipsch Stream Wireless Multi-Room Audio system with DTS and Play-Fi technology, the Three’s inputs are Wi-Fi and Bluetooth wireless compatible. App used for The Three is Klipsch’s Stream app for iPhone and Android devices. It will be available in ebony or walnut.
The Capitol Heresy was released in 1957 as the Klipsch Heresy. Initially it was designed as a compact centre channel for the Klipschorn speakers. The latest version has a more powerful woofer, is bi-wirable and carries a titanium diaphragm tweeter with a larger magnet assembly.
Capitol Records has an illustrious pedigree. It was formed in 1942 as the first West coast based American label. EMI acquitted Capitol in 1955 and made it part of the Universal Music Group.
Capitol’s first record in 1942 featured Martha Tilton singing ‘’Moon Dreams’’. Later that year the label recorded Billie Holiday and Tex Ritter. But the label’s ability to mine recording gold was amply displayed in the following two decades.
The 50’s were a golden period for Capitol and one where it recorded musical luminaries including Sinatra, Nat King Cole, Judy Garland, the Andrews Sisters, Dan Martin and Shirley Bassey.
The 60’s were even more stellar with the arrival at Capitol studios of the Beach Boys, the Beatles, Dave Clark Five, Gerry & the Pacemakers, the Hollies, The Yardbirds and Manfred Mann.
In 2014, Capitol was deemed number two in terms of market share and in the same year it won all four major awards at the Grammys.

applause awards
Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.
Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.
The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.
We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
