Kralk Audio Expands as Part of ManorDrive Group

Kralk Audio joins ManorDrive Group with new premises and plans for the future.

Alan Clark founded Kralk Audio less than eight years ago and, in that time, has made a name for the brand to those in the know. For us, it was his Black Cat speakers at the Bristol Show that first brought Kralk to our attention.

For many, it is Alan's attention to detail and no-nonsense approach that has won him worldwide fans with over 3,000 pairs of speakers built and shipped internationally, all from his small Wakefield workshop.

As with any successful growing business, the Kralk Audio model now requires a step-change in scale and capabilities.

Kralk Audio becomes Kralk Audio Limited and is now part of the ManorDrive group of companies. Staying true to the spirit in which Alan makes his products, Kralk Audio Ltd. does not aspire to become a mainstream manufacturer; it will always be about quality loudspeakers.

A planned £100k investment from the ManorDrive Group will see most of the operations move to Hull, where a new manufacturing unit will be kitted out to the highest specifications. New tools – such as a CNC router – will help increase throughput, improve manufacturing precision, greatly expand the production capabilities and ensure the superior quality of the finished products. The assembly and custom finishes will continue to be handmade, in typical Kralk Audio fashion.

Alan will continue to impose his uncompromising standards in the role of Technical and Quality Director of Kralk Audio Ltd. He will be responsible for training new staff and guaranteeing that the legendary Kralk Audio quality will rise to become an industry benchmark. Additionally, Alan will continue to manually assemble the crossover networks in Wakefield, using the same quality components, and still hand-wind coils to exact values. Naturally, custom loudspeakers will be Alan's exclusive responsibility, along with developing new Kralk Audio models.

Kralk Audio Ltd

Kralk Audio Ltd. is already hard at work on the long-awaited launch of the new 30 Series, a return to the higher end of the market. Also, engineering of the TDB Mk II range has started; bringing an updated look, new drivers and a step-up in sound quality. However, the new range will remain faithful to the TDB philosophy: no unnecessary frills, accessible prices and a myriad of customisation opportunities.

Nicolas Will, in his newly-appointed role of Commercial Director, is excited to join the team and steer Kralk Audio Ltd. on its new path. He brings more than 20 years of expertise in business, engineering and marketing management to the company. Nicolas told StereoNET:

As the owner of Kralk Audio loudspeakers even before joining the team, I recognised their careful craftsmanship and high-quality sound. I am privileged, I now am in a position where I can strongly contribute to the legacy that Alan has created.

We are excited to see what the future holds for Alan, Nicolas and the new team at Kralk Audio Ltd. We wish them all the very best of luck.

applause awards

Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.

Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.

The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.

We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
