Leema Neutron and Graviton Amplifiers Released

25 years in the making, the first products from Leema Acoustics' new Quantum range are now available.

It has been more than a year since Leema Acoustics' Quantum range debuted at NWAS 2022 with consequent demonstrations, including at this year's Bristol Show, the first two components have been formally launched. So, read on for full details and UK pricing for the now available Neutron pre-amp and Graviton power amp.

Leema Quantum Graviton and Neutron

The first all-new Leema Acoustics range in over a decade, the Quantum Series has been entirely designed, engineered and built in the Welshpool factory in Powys, Wales, overseen by Leema Acoustics' co-founder and ex-BBC sound engineer, Lee Taylor.

We are told that the new range borrows heavily from the company's flagship Constellation series and is devised to significantly improve the tech's affordability through simpler casework, single transformers replacing multi-transformers, and the board assembly has been "expertly simplified with no loss of component quality", states Leema.

LEEMA NEUTRON PRE-AMP

The Neutron is pitched as a "thoroughly modern pre-amp" and, we're told, is designed to be as transparent as possible. There has been no skimping on flexibility, mind, as the Neutron offers 12 nameable inputs (4x RCA and 1x XLR, 3x optical, 3x coaxial and 1x USB) alongside a "high-quality" switchable MM/MC phono stage based on Leema Acoustics' proprietary design.

The pre-amp also benefits from an advanced asynchronous ESS 24-bit/192 kHz USB DAC, a dedicated headphone amplifier, plus a high-end Burr-Brown analogue volume control.

There is also a fixed-level record output, a pair of dedicated subwoofer ports, a high-quality dedicated headphone amplifier, and a 12 V trigger.

LEEMA GRAVITON STEREO POWER AMP

The Graviton stereo power amp benefits from what Leema reckons could be the largest toroidal power supply ever seen at its price point. Beyond bragging rights, the generously specified device is said to give the Graviton effortless control over an enormous breadth of loudspeakers.

Leema Quantum Graviton

A Class A/B design, offering 150 watts per channel into 8 ohms and 260 watts into 4 ohms, the Graviton's high-current topology deploys six Toshiba output transistors per channel, promising "huge dynamic ability coupled with unforced sonic detail".

Dual speaker binding posts are included to allow easy bi-wiring, plus line-level loop through-outputs for bi-amping.

Leema co-founder Lee Taylor told StereoNET:

Quantum takes much of the Leema Acoustics' Constellation product design, yet simplified to meet a more affordable price point. However, no compromises have been made where it really counts: the onboard phono stage is cloned directly from the award-winning Essentials Phono, USB is handled via an XMOS interface rather than the Leema M1 module, signal switching is via gold-palladium relays, not solid state, plus volume is regulated via an analogue resistor ladder; Leema Acoustics has used this method for nearly 25 years.

Leema Quantum Graviton and Neutron

All Quantum-range devices benefit from UK-made casework in brushed black or silver finishes, with solid aluminium precision-machined front panels and control dials.

Available now, Leema's Neutron is priced at £1,500, while Graviton costs £1,500. Alternatively, buy both together for £2,800.

applause awards

Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.

Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.

The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.

We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
