Leema Quantum Series Marking Welsh Company’s 25th Anniversary

Leema Acoustics is rolling out its new Quantum range of hi-fi separates at The Bristol Hi-Fi Show 2023 this weekend.
The Quantum series consists of the Electron CD player, Positron music streamer, Neutron DAC/pre-amp and Graviton power amplifier. The Welsh company previewed these most excellently named components at last year's North West Audio Show.
At Cranage, we discovered that the Neutron is a DAC-equipped pre-amp that benefits from an onboard MM/ MC phonostage and balanced/ unbalanced inputs. Meanwhile, the Graviton power amp is a Class A/ B design rated at 150W per channel. The Electron CD player is equipped with a SABRE ES9018-based DAC and boasts a headphone socket.
Finally, the Positron streamer was actually a 'stunt double' when we last saw it, so we are interested to learn more about that, alongside the confirmed specs of the rest of the Quantum series.
Leema Acoustics was founded in 1998 by two ex-BBC sound engineers, Lee Taylor and Mallory Nicholls. Before embarking into electronics, their first product was the well-received Xen micro monitor speakers.
The Tucana integrated amplifier followed in 2006, shortly followed by the Antila CD player - both products continue to live on in contemporary guises. Moreover, Leema remains one of the few hi-fi brands still hand-building products in the UK. All Leema products are designed and produced in Welshpool, Powys in Wales, with components sourced from the UK and Europe.
Leema Acoustics co-founder Lee Taylor told StereoNET:
Leema started as a hobby project in a small metal shed, bought from a Littlewood's catalogue back in 1998. The fact we are still doing what we love 25 years later, although thankfully, now in a much bigger shed, is a constant source of surprise to me. It seems the old adage, 'time flies when you are having fun,' is true.
Furthermore, we have been informed that Leema is working on several other projects as part of its birthday celebrations this year.
The new Quantum products will be shown alongside a full Tucana-based demo system at the Bristol Show, which runs from Friday, February 24th through Sunday, 26th.

applause awards
Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.
Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.
The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.
We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
