Marantz Stereo 70s Slim AVR Promises Premium Performance

Marantz's Stereo 70s AV receiver pledges full-sized sound from an elegantly slim package.

Standing at just 11cm tall, the new Stereo 70s 2-channel receiver from Marantz has been designed to perform like a full-sized amplifier; however, according to the 70-year-old company, "the slim and distinguished design of the Stereo 70s elevates any home and is matched by the signature warm, rich, and detailed sound".

Under the hood, the Stereo 70s boasts Hyper-Dynamic Amplifier Modules (HDAMs), which, Marantz boasts, were developed to "dramatically outperform traditional chip-based op-amps" in conventional audio products to ensure the most musical sound. Even from this slim chassis, you can connect up to two loudspeaker pairs, which can be played separately or together.

Hi-res audio up to 192kHz 24-bit and DSD files are welcomed, making the Stereo 70s attractive for audiophiles and cinephiles alike. Naturally, you get HEOS Built-In for all your streaming and multi-room playback needs with access to Spotify Connect, Amazon Music HD, Apple Airplay, Bluetooth, TIDAL and TuneIn.

Additionally, six HDMI inputs, three of which are 8K compatible, sit with an ARC-supporting HMI output, ensuring connectivity with current and future video and gaming components.

The Marantz STEREO 70s will be available beginning September for £900/ €1,000 in black and silver gold finish.

applause awards

Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.

Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.

The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.

We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
