Melbourne’s New Home of High End Audio

At the pointy end of high-end audio, there are many brands that until now, have been challenging to access in Australia, let alone to audition.

That's all set to change with the opening of Nirvana Sound in the Melbourne suburb of East Bentleigh. The purpose-built showroom opens in just a few weeks times, the brainchild of George Moraitis and Jim Angelopolous.

Moraitis told StereoNET:

We'll be showcasing a 'super system' with Döhmann Helix One & Taiko Audio sources, a full Ypsilon amplification system including the new Hyperion power amplifiers, Stage III Concepts cabling and the flagship Wilson Benesch Eminence speaker system which has just won the 2019 TAS Product of the Year.

While serving as distributors for many brands throughout Australia and also South East Asia, Nirvana Sound will also offer brands including Koetsu, Wilson Benesch, Ypsilon, Cessaro Horn Acoustics, Air Tight, Alsyvox, Döhmann, Taiko Audio, My Sonic Lab, Schröeder, Audience, Accustic Arts, Abyss, Fischer & Fischer, Norma, Larsen, Stage III Concepts, London and Kirmuss.

Moraitis added:

We search the world to find exceptional audio reproduction equipment that has the ability to give our clients an experience of ultimate musical enjoyment. We bring these exceptional brands to you and help you to attain that feeling that you are searching for, the experience of musical 'nirvana'.

Melbourne has long been lacking a seriously high-end store with aspirational brands such as those on offer now by Nirvana Sound. StereoNET looks forward to upcoming events and reviews of Nirvana's portfolio of brands.

Nirvana Sound's showroom is located at 9 Clarence Street, East Bentleigh VIC, and is currently open by appointment only.

applause awards

Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.

Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.

The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.

We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
